I get amused when I read all of these opinions about players and where they should go and what positions they should play. The Vol Nation board is just like the real world. Everybody has an opinion and they want to express it. I get that. I'm the same way. I just think that we need to treat our coaches like we do other professionals. We let bankers run the bank. We let lawyers practice law. We let doctors treat diseases. We understand that they are experts in their field and we respect that by letting them do their jobs. Coaching is a science as well. We need to support them and let them make the decisions that they are trained to do. I'm sure that if Torrance Gibson decides to come to Tennessee to play football, Coach Jones and staff will decide what position Torrance needs to play. I even bet that they can make that decision without the general public telling them where he should play. Our coaches and players will work out the details. We just need to get behind them with our support and cheer them on! Go Big Orange!

Tell that to the insane bank fraud that's been happening, the doctors getting sued for malpractice, and lawyers who are the people running our country into the ground. Doctors are actually almost screwed when antibiotics won't work at all soon.
It's our job as American citizens to question everything around us.

Not much difference than a jihadist Muslim. I honestly think free speech in America is going down the toilet.

Nothing to do with free speech. It's just being aware that words have consequences. As long as it's an opinion based about a kids game, I don't see the problem. If it's personal attacks based on little to nothing that the kid has or has not done is when it's an issue IMO. Thing about those that ring the freedom bell, they need to understand it's ok to exercise your rights as long as to doesn't suppress someone else's. That being said, this is a message board not Capitol Hill. And UT fans should want the best for the program and not do anything, however small it is, to torpedo the coaches and the athletic departments efforts. This thread to me isn't necessarily one of those cases. I was just responding to the poster that thought kids UT is trying to recruit don't read these boards.

I don't think negative speech effects anybody's rights. Words always have consequences, but they're only words. To me,words are meaningless and actions show everything.

don't question anything. nothing sketchy is going on.

Barton Simmons and Swain both felt he was skipping camps on purpose because of other camps moving him to WR. Each camp he attends and that happens, all it does is hurt his "QB" chances IMO. He may be trying to play it safe.

That is not what they said. They said he played wr at a couple of camps for fun. Nit that he was getting moved or scared.

Barton Simmons Joins The Swain Event 6-3-14 - Tennessee Sports Radio

Simmons actually said there isn't a throw he can't make. Has great arm talent, great size and elite athleticism . He is inconsistent some like all hs qbs are. He said that UT got another qb as a back up plan in case Gibson doesn't work out at qb. He said if he does work at qb you have a 6'4 Mike Vick. If not you have an elite athlete and use the other qb.

The "He's definitely a WR at the next level" crowd are hilarious. We have multiple analysts saying he is a great QB and has an extremely high ceiling at the position. We have impressive QB film especially considering it was his first year playing the position. We have Jones, Malzhan, Meyer, and other coaches that want him at QB. On the other hand, we have rumors of him playing WR at one or two camps, and that has some people on here so convinced he's a WR at the next level, they actually have the nerve to talk in a condescending manner to those that disagree with them. Calling people kids, emotional, butthurt, and saying all sorts of ridiculous things simply because we roll with our eyes, offers, and paid analysts over rumors, and the opinions of people on a message board that have an extremely over inflated view of themselves and their way of thinking. It really is laughable.

Gotta agree. CBJ has a three million dollar per year job at stake. He has more than a few highly paid experts helping him. He has interviewed these kids, talked to their coaches and their competitor's coaches, watched them live and on film, seen them in camps, watched (and measured) them running, jumping, throwing, performing drills. I am amazed that anyone on the message board pretends they know more about any of these kids than the coaching staff.

Plus, I agree, anyone who uses the term "butthurt" in dealing with others is acting like a petulant child and showing a complete lack of respect for other people. That word simply tells me they have no argument to make, so they are trying to drag others into some sort of personal fight. Childish, frankly, and there is no place for anyone over 14 years old using the term.

Welcome to big boy football. We're not any different from any other big time fans. Kids who use a message board to make decisions don't deserve the chance at the big time.

I question how many 'grown ass men' are participating in disparaging remarks about 17-18 year old kids. Certainly not any that have kids of their own I would hope.

And for all the tape that we watch, recruiting services that some might subscribe to and the statistics we can compile........none of us have jobs evaluating college football talent. Why is that?

We're too lazy to go get one. :). I could definitely go coach a offense or defensive line.

I was confused when it was mentioned that Gibsons coach moved him to WR on more than one occasion during passing league.

It didn't make sense to me. Passing league doesn't count, it's simply a time to try to improve your team. If Gibson wanted to be a qb, why not let him get the extra reps?

But now I'm asking myself, "what if Gibson wanted scouts to see him at wr? What if he doesn't want to play qb?"

That is the point a couple of us have been making. He may not know what position he wants to lock into yet. He has only played one season as a HS QB. He has a lot of voices telling him what they think he ought to do. He needs to try things and figure it out for himself.

There isn't. I bet Frank Beamer and Mack Brown are really kicking themselves that they didn't put Vick and Vince Young at WR in college due to their elusiveness seen in their respective high school films.

No doubt they are. :) And, FWIW, sanddune, your posts are a bit too civil and sensible for this thread.

Where have you gotten a "hate" vibe on this thread...even Tux likes TG as a WR...it seems if you don't give him an affirmative nod for future all-pro signalcaller, that you're deemed a hate criminal...extreme view. :glare:

I'm not basing any of this on my own words. It's what is in the thread. Mentions of "Working Hard" to make sure Torrance Gibson isn't a Vol can easily be found.

We should all realize that these forums aren't read only by fans of "Big-Boy" football, there is evidence of this already here too.

I have never said that anyone must give a nod to TG as a future All-Pro, nor have I said I was against any other recruits joining the program. In-fact, I've said just the opposite. I've provided video of why expectations shouldn't be too high for TG, but I've also pointed out - with links, why he should be regarded among the best in the country. I've done the same for Dormady.

I'm a VFL and part of that means I stand behind the choices of the coaching staff. I also don't like to see 16-17 year-old, talented young-men being unduly ran-down by anyone who doesn't want them at the university - for whatever the reason.

I do think he could be a quality option at WR. Only issue there is where we have North, Pearson, Malone, and all the other talent there, it could be a while before he see's the field. Of course there are other things that could factor into that. Does he play QB his SR year? If so, it could slow his development at WR. Does he even play for American Heritage HS at all as a SR? IF he changes schools, where would his new coach play him? A lot to still be determined here IMO.
