'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

Kid is not doing his research if he considers playing for Vandy or at Florida in Muschamp's offense. UT, UGA, and FSU are clearly the best options.

We have so many talented, young receivers here and coming in next year that I'm not worried about Malone. Give me Barnett, Mosely, Humphreys, Jackson, and 2 JUCO linemen and I'll be the happiest man in Volnation.

I'm pretty worried. How many of our WRs and incoming WRs have had meaningful snaps, other than Vincent Dallas? None.

Article written by Barton Simmons, the Vandy247 writer. Basically saying interested in Florida, FSU, Clemson, Vandy, Tennessee, and Georgia. The Vandy247 writer in his post drumming up the article mentions he thinks it is FSU/GA tied for first, followed, by Clemson, then Vandy.

From the article quote regarding UT:

"Tennessee is still in it. Coach Butch Jones is really trying to do something special in state in recruiting. Kind of like how James Franklin really focused on the state at Vanderbilt, now Coach Jones is doing it at Tennessee so they’re kind of going head to head.”

Get the sense from the article that if either in state school were to have a great season (10+ wins) they would likely be his favorite.

I guess its time to move on 10 win, not this year from the get go i didnt think we were at the top of his list i think with all this talent coming in next year, might have scared him off a little, and if he is like that dont waste a scholly.:ermm:Remember we are TENNESSEE THE GREAT ONE.

Thought I should add to what CobbVol quoted above. Malone said that he's not going to announce his OV's. He said that he will set up an OV with the school, and he will show up on the OV. So, he said that we will just hear about him being at a school over a given weekend.

Schools mentioned in particular were, UF, FSU, UT, Vandy, UGA, and Clemson. He's committed to a visit to UGA. I think he really likes FSU. I think UF is trying pretty hard to get in the fight, based on what was said in the article. He liked the visit. Malone continues to reiterate that he wants to go to a school that has an established offense, and particularly commits to passing in the offense. IMO, it didn't sound positive when he mentioned:

“I know they’ve been more of a power running team,” he said of Florida. “But they want to evolve the offense into a true passing offense so they say they’re committed to the passing game. They just have to show they’re committed to throwing it. The last few years they’ve been running it like 40 times a game.”

Last, he said that recruiting has been the last thing on his mind since his training for his HS season has started. So, I wouldn't expect much news to come from Malone over the next, at least, 4 weeks.

Putting the most positive Big Orange spin on what appears to be an otherwise challenging recruitment, let us hope that Marquez North catches fire at an unusually early point for an incoming freshman. Simply as an indicator of the possible success that he might achieve early in his career, that development might persuade Malone to give us a closer look than he is presently inclined to take.

I'm really hoping North has a season like Amari Cooper did at Bama last year (1,000 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns). For whatever reason, it seems that Cooper was overshadowed by the rest of the team but that is an incredible freshman year and Cooper and North were similarly ranked.
