What central message did Swinney extend?

"He told me that I'm the No. 1 back that he wants," Green said. "He said they have one 2013 running back committed and two running backs committed for 2014 so he's only taking one more running back. He said they are looking at a few other guys and that he can't stop recruiting them just to wait for me. He said they are only taking one more back this year and whomever hops in next will be it."

What was 5-star recruit's reply?

"I told him I still really like Clemson but I've also got some other visits coming up to see some places I haven't been to yet, too," Green said.

Next week Green will go to Georgia on Thursday, Auburn on Friday, Alabama on Saturday and Ole Miss on Sunday.

On the final weekend of July, he'll go to Ohio State for Friday Night Lights on July 27 and then to Michigan the next day for the BBQ at the Big House.

"I should have a better feel where I stand with everyone and which schools I like after those trips," Green said. "I'll try and cut down my list again after that right before my senior season starts."

Just because I am interested in the perception of our program outside of our borders, what is your/average Clemson fans, perception of Tennessee as a program?

a. has been
b. national power on a down-swing, that will eventually rise again.
c. other.

Signu, that was very well-summarized, and exactly what I have been saying. Got 4 commitable offers outstanding right now, first one to commit, gets the spot.

UTfan, I disagree with your assessment of the situation. Clemson needs 2 backs this class and with one already commited, we can't risk not signing a top level guy to wait for things to play out with Green. Are we suppose to wait until Jan or even NSD only to see him go elsewhere and be screwed? Can't risk it.

Also, while I do think that Green is the top back left and that he is in fact #1 on our board, I believe that Dye is 1b. Clemson is really high on him, a lot higher than most recruiting services. Can't risk losing a guy like that to potenially hit the jackpot with Green.

It's really tough to get a consensus of an entire fanbase. I could ask VN their thoughts on Clemson, and can gurantee you that I would get some extremely varying opinions.

With that said, I can offer you my thoughts. I think Tenn is in a very intersting spot this season. I can most definitely relate to that, as it reminds me of Dabo's position going into last year. We were coming off a 6-7 season, and the fanbase was not happy. He made some good offseason moves, and was able to deliver a respectable season, albeit one with some glaring black eyes. With that, the positive/forward momentum was undeniable and you would be hardpressed to find him on any "hot seat" lists this year, while he was their poster boy last year at this time.

I bring this up b/c Tenn is in the exact same situation this year. IMO, the worst thing that can happen is a mediocre season that results in Dooley being given another year in a half-hearted manner. This was my fear for Clemson football coming into last year. If he's not the man for the job, best to find out now and move forward accordingly.

This brings me to my opinion of Tenn as a program, which I think very highly of. To answer your question, I resoundingly say B! All programs go through ups and downs, but programs like Tenn don't stay down long. You would be an idiot to bet against them not becoming nationally relevant again, and sooner rather than later. It'd be the same person that bet against Alabama returning to glory back in the early 2000s, when they had their struggles.

Program-wise, Tenn fans have nothing to worry about. It's just a matter of how long you have to wait, and who will it be that takes you there. "If" is not the question.....

Hunter, Bray, Da'Rick, Tiny, Maggitt, AJ Johnson, CP....

We might not be signing the #'s we used to but considering where we've been over the last 5+ years, I'm not satisfied but I'm not complaining (much) either...

interesting that hunter, bray, and AJ was already committed to Tennessee. And that kiffin and already put in a lot of work on Da'rick. I'll give you maggitt, but we've still yet to see if Tiny and CP are gonna pan out. Tiny was getting beat pretty well in pass protection all during the scrimmages.

Besides, this list should be longer

Negative, AJ was a 2011 Recruit (Same year as Maggitt). Da'rick, Stone, and Hunter all came after Kiffin Left. Bray was Kiffin's Recruit. Wasn't Rajion Neal a late grab by Dooley as well?

Holy ****, are you really regurgitating the same tired, beat down argument that's been debated so many times we ought to have it memorized by now??

I thought this was simply a statement that illustrated the frustration with the overall state of the team, not ANOTHER MFing Dooley b*tch-fest.

Dooley's gonna keep getting b*tched until he proves he's a worthy coach for Tennessee. Maybe he will, maybe he won't, only time will tell.

Why do people keep b*itching about Dooley? You guys are setting yourselves up to be pretty disappointed after Dooley gets his wins this year and remains coach for TN in '14. In my opinion, you guys are just as bad as Trolls. If you really cared about TN you would wish they would succeed no matter what because for the last decade we've been mediocre. We can't take another year mediocrity because it will only put us further behind. I wish Dooley the very best because I care about TN. Quit whining like a little school girl about Dooley every chance you get because it's getting old. Also, I am pissed about us losing to KY just as you are. But b*tching about Dooley is not helping anything. You're only scaring potential talent away from choosing TN next fall. If you don't think that they read these boards, you're crazy. Give the new staff a chance. I think you'll be pleased...unless you're a troll. FWIW.

We're taking 1 more back. Dye is the most likely. I think we are in great position with Green, but I also think he will wait to long to decide (which is what O'Daniel was referring to in his quote). Kamara is a dawg.

Another one to watch out for is Peyton Barber. He's rated much lower thant the others, but according to my sources, has a commitable offer. We are probably his best offer, and my fear is that he commits before the others, and we're all full at RB. This would be a HUGE MISTAKE. My hope is that we change our stance and no longer extend a commitable offer to him, and let it play out with the others.

Update on Barber's recruitment. The reason I add it to this thread is that it directly affects how long Clemson can and will be a major factor for Green, who doesn't seem like he is in much of a hurry to end the recruiting process (and rightfully so).

"Checked with a few contacts familiar with Peyton Barber's line of thinking in terms of his recruitment this morning.

Word I'm getting now is that Arizona State leads. The 3-star big back (5-11, 227) out of Alpharetta (GA) Milton will be flying out to Tempe (AZ) on July 25th for a weekend stay.

I wouldn't be surprised if he committed to the Sun Devils on the trip, if things go well.

Clemson's not much of a factor in this recruitment from what I've gathered. I think other teams recruited him harder (much harder likely) while Clemson is focused more on Dye, Kamara and Green presently in an effort to land one of those 3 to go with Gallman."
