'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Update on Barber's recruitment. The reason I add it to this thread is that it directly affects how long Clemson can and will be a major factor for Green, who doesn't seem like he is in much of a hurry to end the recruiting process (and rightfully so).

"Checked with a few contacts familiar with Peyton Barber's line of thinking in terms of his recruitment this morning.

Word I'm getting now is that Arizona State leads. The 3-star big back (5-11, 227) out of Alpharetta (GA) Milton will be flying out to Tempe (AZ) on July 25th for a weekend stay.

I wouldn't be surprised if he committed to the Sun Devils on the trip, if things go well.

Clemson's not much of a factor in this recruitment from what I've gathered. I think other teams recruited him harder (much harder likely) while Clemson is focused more on Dye, Kamara and Green presently in an effort to land one of those 3 to go with Gallman."

Appreciate the info. If he commits, Barber could make some noise in the PAC 12, sooner rather than later. A back with his size combined with those bowling alley running lanes in a pass happy conference...

I know nothing about him but, based on his size and ability, he sounds a lot like LenDale White (Barber that is).

Yeah, I am in agreeance with Tha Don on him. He is a very underrated back, and could be a real good player, especially out in the Pac 12.

I really don't understand how off the radar he is here in the southeast. Measurables seem to be there, along with the film, but rated very low. 77th best player in GA? That seems awfully low!

I'm just saying it's frustrating. Lane fell into our lap. Look I love this staff, but it is a little bit frustrating that we miss on all these top tailbacks while our competitors get one every year.

My lord....NSD is not until FEBRUARY!! We have not missed out on anyone yet. These 17 and 18 year old kids change their freakin' minds all the time. Until they sign the dotted line they're not solidly committed anywhere...especially running backs.

5-7 team who is known as a pass first offense...that's not an easy situation for elite RB recruiting. Why do you think we excel in WR recruiting? 5-7 teams don't get both with this kind of offense. Even Saban doesn't pull in a sick WR class like we just did, because he's a run first coach, and he was the national champ. Until we win and/or show some love to the run game, elite backs will be hard to get.

Whenever these RB recruits see what Coach Graham has done to revamp our running game this fall, ohhhhh the interest will be there.

Be patient...we will get one out of Henry, Kamara, and Green...IMO. And we are still in it with Turman and Folston, who are solid RB prospects as well.

I have been frustwrated too but after thinking about it some more I think we will b fine. RBs are a dime a dozen. We'll get a good one this class.

RBs are a dime a dozen, but not game changing RBs. And thats what we've been missing. D green... that's you buddy.

All fair points. Myself, I am frustrated.

I hear you. In all fairness to the RBs currently on our roster, if our OLine does not do a better job of run blocking it doesn't matter how "elite" the running back is. He won't be successful. The OLine, or lack there of, is the root cause of our rushing deficiency. A good offensive line has the ability to make an average RB look good, and a bad OLine has the ability to make a good running back look bad. Don't think for a minute that these kids do not take into consideration that Tennessee was dead last in Rushing in the SEC last year. They do, I assure you.

Poole peaked out at the half of the Oregon game. Don't know what happened after that but he was running with authority, making great reads, then....

Dye to Clemson and Wilkins to Auburn eliminates two competitors for Green. I think it's down to tOSU, Mich, VT, and UT. We have an outside shot if we can get an OV.

I personally think an OV is assured unless we get a commit from another big name first.
