'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

This kid is just looking for a reason to play for us. We need to give him one really soon.

I agree. If UT keeps Graham, Green will be a Vol. Green likes AU's Luper, but I don't think Luper will stay. His son picked TAM rather than AU and I believe Luper wants to leave too.

I think Green's recruitment hinges on who the new coaches are at Auburn and Tennessee, and whether he takes another trip to Ann Arbor and comes away with a different impression. If either of the new coaches at Auburn or Tennessee creates a good, solid relationship with Green and makes him feel comfortable, then I'd consider them the favorite.

And speaking of Green, he is in an interesting situation when it comes to his top choices. He has taken official visits to two schools with lame duck coaches (Tennessee and Auburn) and he used the dreaded "nice" word when talking about his visit to Michigan.

That leaves visits left to Miami, the newest school on his list, and either Ole Miss or Oregon. Derrick and his family have been very smart about this process by being methodical and patient, and it will pay off in the end. A lot depends on which coaches are retained, if any, at Tennessee and Auburn and who the next head coach is, as well as how the remaining visits go.

I can't see him going as far away from home as Oregon and I think Miami might be a little too new to his favorites list to be a huge factor here, but anything can happen. Confidence isn't high at Ole Miss, either, so this will likely come down to the staff changes in Knoxville and Auburn and whether he wants to head north to play football at Michigan.

I have said in the past that Michigan seems like the best fit for his running style, but I get the feeling he wants to play football down South.

It's been Michigan or Tennessee for a while, DG has stated on several occasions that he likes (and wants to play in) the SEC. A proven winner / recognized name introduced as our next HC should / will seal the deal.

If you offered me a deal and said that we can sign Derrick Green and the rest would have to be prospects from TN this year, I would rip your arm off shaking your hand to take the deal. He's the most important player for us at this point. He's worth 4 scholarships IMO.

Thats really not a good deal considering this is a great year for TN, and there are a bunch of top prospects coming out of the Volunteer state.

You're right there are a lot of great prospects in TN this year. I guess I should've clarified further. TN prospects that we have a legitimate shot at signing. Thanks for pointing that out. :hi:

"The recruiting process is going well," he said. "Right now, I'm slowing the process down because I'm just starting playoffs but the everything is going well. I just took an official visit to Auburn and Miami is back on the list after I took Virginia Tech off." Green and his family are taking a much more detailed and analytical approach to the recruiting process than many other recruits.

"I still don't know where I want to be but I'm taking some visits and I will sit down with my parents and weigh the pros and cons," he said. "I'm just taking my time with it. Most guys rush the process and commit on the spot and that's not what I'm doing. I'm weighing my options and making sure I make the best decision for my as far as education, playtime and all of that."

The ESPN 150 tailback from Richmond (Va.) Hermitage said he would continue to consider the SEC school even if there is a coaching change there.

"Yes sir," Green stated via text message to ESPN. "No question."

When asked if he is worried about a possible coaching change, Green stated, "Not concerned at all."

Because he knows Graham is staying, and that is all that really matters to him. VOL! I am guessing that he is speaking about TN and not Auburn...correct?

After reading the information about him the last couple of weeks, I think Michigan has faded. It looks to me like UT or AU in that order. If AU moves soon to Bryant or another JUCO RB, it means we are out of it completely.

Didn't Auburn get a commit recently from a JUCO back?

Yes, Cameron Artis-Payne from Allan Hancock College (Ca.), 5'11", 210, originally from Harrisburg, PA. AU needs two running in this class. Wilkins, due to injury, will not be a factor next year even if he signs with AU.

I've always felt AU was our only true competition for him. He's a perfect fit for your offense if a change isn't made.

RB coach Luper is who is important to Green. I doubt if Luper stays. Also, if we go to Malzahn, I don't think Green would be a great fit in the spread.

Michael Dyer similar style back as Green tho.

Great RBs will flourish in any system
