'13 TN RB Cornelius Elder

WTF is wrong with these Nashville Dbags that aren't interested in UT? I mean who the heck wants to leave Tennessee to go to Columbus Ohio? I don't care how many free tats you gave me I'd never leave TN for OH... And even more realistically, friends/family notwithstanding, you'll know a grand total of nobody when you get there. And there's no guarantees you'll start. So lets recap (minus my tOSU joke):

1) Leaving hometown friends/family - check
2) Moving from TN to OH aka the black hole of happiness- check
3) Facing the possibility of never starting or playing in a cracker jack conference- check

Umm ok, boys....

So... I'm guessing you are a townie. You know, one of those people who didn't steer too clear of his hometown.

Getting out & experiencing new parts of the world, meeting new people, and leaving home is part of becoming a more well-rounded & cultured individual. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

He's still not very close," Elder's mother, Sharon Collier, said. "He's still evaluating and thinking about it. He's deciding what's best for him. He's not close to a decision at all."

Elder visited Ohio State on Jan. 11 and the family is visiting Georgia Tech on Jan. 27. That leaves the weekend before signing day open with two SEC schools vying for Elder's company.

"He's looking at Auburn or Ole Miss for that last weekend," Collier said.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee visited Elder in-home last week. Lashlee has been to a pair of Elder's basketball games. Auburn entered the picture later than other programs for Elder, but the Tigers have made an impression.

"It was a great visit, Coach Malzahn is a great coach," Collier said. "We enjoyed the visit and there was a lot of information. We really like them. Auburn came late in the game so he's trying to find a relationship and build that with them. He's trying to feel them out.

"They are very aggressive right now and showing much interest. Coach Malzahn actually gave Cornelius his first offer at Arkansas State." "He likes Auburn's offense, it seems like he would fit well in that offense," Collier said.

In addition to Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Auburn, other programs firmly in the mix are UCLA and Vanderbilt. Elder plays both football and basketball in high school and is contemplating playing both in college also.

You guys act like we had a chance. I told you guys. He wants to get away from family and do his own thing. That counts out anywhere close to Murfreesboro or Rockwood, TN.

VQ has hinted that Coach Martin is still seeking some help in the backcourt. Elder may not play football if that happens IMO. Something that'll be interesting to watch down the road.

Elder finally got his first major D1 offer to play basketball. Purdue offered.

Purdue offers Cornelius Elder in basketball

Also a four-star football prospect, Elder is considering offers from the likes of Ohio State, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Auburn and Vanderbilt. But he has always longed for a high major basketball offer.

“It’s really exciting to get my first high major D1 offer,” Elder told 247Sports. “Purdue is a great school, and they usually have a pretty good team.”

“I have no idea,” said Elder when asked about whether he will play both sports or just one sport in college. “This (Purdue basketball offer) made it so much harder. I’m just going to take this day by day.”

Purdue HC Matt Painter watched Elder play against Nashville CPA last night.

Barton Simmons thinks Cuonzo may offer in the near future. However, Barton also thinks that Corn may pass on the opportunity to play college football with a major basketball offer now in hand.

"We're coming to visit Auburn on Wednesday and Thursday," Sharon Collier, Elder's mother.

Elder and his mother will travel down to Auburn, then back to Nashville for a high school basketball game on Friday, before traveling back to Atlanta to visit Georgia Tech on Saturday and Sunday.

Glad to hear about the Purdue offer. I'd love to see the guy where Orange as much as the next person. But if his heart is set on playing hoops, Purdue is big time.

Why would we recruit this guy if he is from TN? Coach Butch will be getting these guys in the future. Fulmer (last few years) and Dooley really hurt this program. Im not sure what to think of Cuonzo yet.

If we could get him to sign a football scholarship, he could play both football and basketball. We could use him in both sports.

It baffles me as to why Tennessee hasn't made more of an effort for Corn. Basketball or Football, I have seen him play in person for both.

Corn isn't interested in playing football for TN per Buck Fitzgerald. He said that TN hasn't shown interest in him either. However, a UT basketball offer may change things. If he gets the offer from Martin I highly doubt he plays both sports.

This. I don't know how much attention Dooley's staff gave him, but Elder's attention to UT football was never high. He wants to play basketball. He slowly began to realize that football may be his only option, but now he has an offer from Purdue, and he may get one from UT.

he wont sign anywhere till april. just a heads up so next thursday morning when it shows him unsigned people wont think that means we have a shot and need to be camped out at Ensworth.

Is this because of basketball?
