Well, I understand that, but it never seems like I see "UTA" mentioned anywhere. I guess they beat us to the internet or something, forever ceiling our fates. The unfortunate thing is that we were the first public UT long before Texas was, not to mention the whole Alamo and Mexican-American War thing too. Anyhow, I was just wondering if "UTK" was a diminutive term that Bama fans use to belittle us, like we're not the real UT. I'm probably making way too much out of that comment, but I've just not heard us referred to in that manner as far as sports are concerned.

Other fans do it all the time and it usually is at the very least poking fun.

Thanks. I guess I didn't realize that until now; it's news to me, but I can see how it would be perfect fodder for the scamps. I guess going in and forming a state for somebody doesn't count for much round other parts.

I have no clue and see it a few times I guess but to be honest pay it no attention. I know what he means. It is not like saying USCe which really is not who they are. UT is atleast in Knoxville. But anyway I just copied and pasted it for your viewing pleasure.

Oh, well other posters might know better than I do, but a lot of Tennesseans either moved down to Texas while it was still a Mexican province/state (before the Texas Revolution) or went down there, specifically, to fight in the war in the 1830s. Apparently, Crockett and a good number of Tennesseans were present at the Alamo as well. In fact, numerous early Texas statesmen (for whom Texas cities are named after) hailed from Tennessee. I think a few also came from Kentucky. (I might have said the Mexican-American War earlier in one of my posts, but I meant the Texas Revolution.)

I think even some people from UTChatt refer to people that go to UT as UTK. I don't know why. Just throwing my 2 cents out there. This is just based on some people I've met that go there. I always say I go to UT if someone asks.

Sorry I thought you were referring to AL. Which by the way both MS and AL were created out of the Mississippi Territory which both became states after the War of 1812. The majority of the men who fought in the Creek War during that time of the War of 1812 under Jackson were all from TN and they were also the ones that garrison all the forts. And started settling that area.

I only know this because my gggggarndfather fought in the East TN Militia mostly in AL and FL. So there you have it TN helped many southern states find their soveignty.:salute:

In NC you if you do not go to UNC you go to UNCC, UNCW, UNCA, UNCP or UNCG. But everyone that goes to UNC all the people instate just call it Chapel Hill.

They don't call us the Volunteers for nothing! Interesting stuff, TideWarrior. Good to know that you're up on your family history. A lot of people either aren't or are incapable of being familiar with their's due to various reasons. Anyhow, I agree with you, back to Lawson now.
