'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe after a redshirt year Henry beats Yeldon for the starting job? Nobody knows. He's heavily sought after and obviously isn't concerned about competition.

For Henry to pick UA it means he feels he can compete and get in the line-up and probably early. Not saying you but people throw depth out there, but UA played 9 true freshman in the game the other night. Including 2 RBs. No matter how many top tier recruits(now players) are at UA it always comes down to the best will always be on the field.

I agree with you, but do you think Henry would redshirt? The guy has started every year in high school and seems to be really enjoying the recruitment process. I really believe that Henry will not go to Bama simply because he doesn't want to sit out a year and he knows he'll have immediate playing time at Tennessee. Yeldon is a beast and i do not believe Henry will be taking playing time from him.

No I do not think he will redshirt. BUt I think if the UM game was a preview of the season to come that Lacy will try and leave for the NFL early. Should be a mid to late rd with a solid season. But if Yeldon overtakes him or appears to do so for next year Lacy will not stick around for his senior year to see his draft stock go down.

We already have heard rumors prior to the season starting that Hart is not happy and I could see him leave in Jan for more playing time. Fowler is a junior but will graduate in Dec. Even if he stays, which I hope, his future is at FB/HB. He did a great job blocking for Yeldon.

So in short even if we have 3 RBs come in next year, there is a very good chance that Yeldon and Drake will be the only true RBs on the roster returning. So Henry just has to be better than Jones and Tenpenny to see the field next year. If he comes to UA.

Anyone else getting concerned about our RB situation in this class?

Kamara said his top 2 are Bama and UGA.
Henry seems to lean Bama anytime anyone asks.
Green seems to be a Michigan, VT, AU battle.
Bryant looks like AU.

I still have yet to hear of one of the elite RBs say we lead. Folston maybe? Williams?

It's not looking good. Am I wrong? Hope so...

Tenpenny and Jones (is it) may have something to say about that

The same for Henry. All three could come into UA with a legit shot at the #2 RB position right away. Henry being an EE would give him an advantage. Atleast over TP because I believe Jones will also be an EE. Henry has to like those odds.

no because lane is a beast and will show out. all we need is one good back to do well. everything takes over from there. if lane puts up 1000 yds this season, imagine next year, as a jr, and as a senior. you still got Neal in the mix, with young, and Pig, so no i am not worried. the days are over when we are worried about young inexperienced freshmen coming into the program and contributing. we saw that painfully obvious against NC state. No freshmen DL, no freshmen other than Blanc, Bonner.

Henry needs to come to UT where he knows he will be the featured RB. Why play Russian Roulette by going to Bama where he may or may not be the guy?

Derrick Henry, the 5-star RB who was formerly committed to UGA for nearly a year, has finally set his announcement date.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder told BamaOnline that he will decide between Alabama, Tennessee and UGA on Sept. 28.
Henry told the website that “Alabama’s still leading, and Tennessee is right there.” He plans to attend Tennessee’s home game against Florida on Sept. 15 to get a good feel what Rocky Top is like during football season

Lane...the same RB that came out of camp #3 on the depth chart?

I've only seen flashes of brilliance from Lane, I hope you're right but for us to pin our hopes on a RB who wasn't even impressive enough to get 2nd string after both Spring and Fall is detrimental.

Don't fool yourself, NCSU is a very poor measuring stick and while what Lane did was impressive, you need to consider their line was small and thin on talent and their LB's are suspect at best. Those running lanes were there all game, all we needed was a North-South runner to blast through them.

We STILL need a RB that is at least close to elite bc I don't think we have one right now; we have three serviceable RBs with SEC talent but not one who can dictate tempo and control the clock when we need it.

So against a poor measuring stick of NCSU, we are still going to go with Neal? the #1 back in spring and summer camp? hmmm. that does not make any sense. Lane is an elite back, and will end up being a good one here.

Where the hell did I address who should be starting?

But since we're there, yes, Neal still starts but Lane gets more carries.

Not concerned. I'm used to them striking out with good RB's.

And that is why I think UT is in his final group. He would come in and have a better shot at starting and being the feature back. UA has a pretty good track record for RBs while in college and going onto the NFL, but UT offers other opportunities that could bring greater rewards. That is the big difference right now. UA is a little more stable in regards to the staff staying around, not saying CDD is going anywhere but these recruits have to be hearing that and a little worried. Also UA has demonstrated what they can do with RBs. But UT has more potential but not a guarantee.

If UT finishes strong this year the 2014 class will be a great class for CDD.

Henry is going to be good no matter where he goes but he will have a better chance at playing right away at UT. Also the results of the draft only tells me that Bama has been recruiting better than anyone the last few years.

its not just about playing right away, development is also key and thats something that draws Henry to Bama. also some of these kids that are destined for the NFL are ok with RB by committee because it saves their legs for a longer career. they are on the 3 year plan. the 2nd back gets plenty of touches and he knows that.

Yeah we've heard you and TW explain it to us 26 times now.
