'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

It's one of those plays, if CP gets knocked behind the line of scrimmage, hypothetically speaking of course, then you're calling Chaney a doofus right now. Execution is nullified.

If you're referring to me, I never said I didn't think Chaney was a doofus. I just don't think that play was a fair example as to why.

And again, only off of memory here, but I believe it was off a play fake to Neal with the motion of the line moving in the opposite direction so I don't think the play design was as bad as you apparently do, even to the short side.

See last post.

I loved to see him score don't get me wrong. But I thought defenses go strong and weak based on the offensive sets. Every defense I've played on always matched up that way. Sometimes the CBs get moved around based on the defensive system too. I hated to play the field CB. All that damn ground to deal with all game.

Well I must say things have changed some since I played for sure. But your right, we would set our offense up to where they would have to defend the wide side and then run to short side. So your right but I had to take my shot to mess with u. :)

My biggest issue w/ Chaneys play calling Friday night was the 4th & 1 we had in the 2nd quarter when we had a great drive going & were up 22-7. We were on the verge of busting that game open. Why in the heck do you call a fake end around & then hand the ball off to Rajion up the middle w/ no lead blocker. You had to know NC State was going to blitz there.

Then we had a 3rd & 1 in the 2nd quarter I think where we lined up 4 wide & threw it. Either run a delayed draw or line up & pound it up the middle.

My other complaint is in the 4th quarter after Lane broke the long run to the 3 yard line. We ended up getting a false start penalty that made it 1st & goal from the 8 but we lined up 4 wide 3 straight times & threw it.

Your first point is what really left me scratching my head. When you got short yardage just line up man on man and let the RB hit hit up the middle. Now if the D gives u a whole different look that opens a quick slant or whatever thats fine but this faking reverse stuff on short yardage takes to long.

That is Chaney's M.O. His offenses at Purdue were primarily passing-oriented. His offenses here, have been primarily passing-oriented (although the argument can be made that it was a necessity more than a preference).

If we start putting up 35+ in every game, I have few complaints, however, I feel the same way you do...we need to give it to the backs more often.

...and I can't stand reverses--don't get me wrong, I went nuts when CP took it to the house, but those plays have a low success rate, especially in the SEC, where DE's have speed to match a lot of WR's. Chaney loves them, apparently. I've seen more reverses while he's been here than in the previous 29-30 years.

based on the last 2 seasons, I was surprised that the following 4 plays weren't end-arounds. it seems like chaney's bad habit was going back to the well too often when a play worked. it was like watching a 12 year old play madden.

Some of y'all will find anything to complain about. Talk about how are explosive and dynamic our offense is and then complain about the man architecting it.

Trying to distinguish between a good play call and a player making a play is a really, really murky discussion.

Is Alabama the only place where players develop? With his measurables, he could have a tremendous career at either school and reach the NFL.

no, he could develop anywhere but he just like the fact of what Bama has done over the last few years with RBs, also Coach Burns is established. this is just some of the things Henry has said he likes about Bama. Position coach seems to play a big factor for some of these kids. I dont think anyone disagrees with the fact that he could get immediate PT at UT but its obvious he is looking at other factors. (coaching stability, winning, etc.)

Only reason I would want him at UA is if Tunsil commits also, other than that I hope he commits to UT.

We scored 35 points (would have been 42 points but for Bray's fumble). I don't understand the complaints.

I guess a few of us are greedy and want all of the points that we could have gotten. Especially when we could've lined up in the "I formation" and punished this team in short yardage situations. And why didn't we throw any fades close to goaline since Chaney wanted to throw it down there? Hell that's all I'm saying. Not disappointed at all with the win. I just want to see us capitalize in short yardage and redzone situations.

True. I wouldn't mind. His play-calling is frustrating. Sometimes mind-boggling.

I agree, especially 3rd and 1 and being in shotgun handing off or throwing. We have a fun offense to watch, but would really love to pound the rock from under center on those occasions. I love our passing attack and if we had a power running game to go with it we would almost be impossible to defend.

I remember a lot of people complaining about the end-arounds for DR and Neal last year. Seems as if that play call worked well against NC State.

Inb4 they say its Patterson making him look good.

Must be Patterson, it's the first time that play has gone for a TD. It was a great play by CP more than the Chaney call. It did show UT has the athletes to play with anybody. If JH11 is your No.2 WR you have a top-notch WR corp.

CP made it happen but it was beautifully blocked. I also noticed Hunter and Neal blocking for him 50 yards from the los. Its a new day round herr

Yes I noticed that too. Players executed very well on that play. And then 10.33 speed took over. You should see the Bama fans faces when they were watching CP on that play.
