'13 AL RB Johnathan Ford (no longer a Vandy commit)

I'm sure it made him feel really special to see a Knox area code on caller ID seconds after Green picked Michigan. Ford already has major, commitable offers. I doubt he was waiting for Green to make up his mind.

There are a lot of different things that factor in a recruit's decision, and that may be one of them. Thanks for the jab at the point I tried to make. To me, even though we've been down for a while, Tennessee is a major commitable offer as well. Keep looking at that glass that's half empty I don't see things that way. GBO

New Hope (Ala.) Rivals250 running back Johnathan Ford is committed to Vanderbilt, but that didn't stop him from taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend.

"My visit went good, it was a great experience to meet Coach (Gus) Malzahn and the staff. It felt real good," Ford said.

Ford spent time with Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and receivers coach/co-offensive coordinator Dameyune Craig. The style offense and matching Ford's style was discussed.

"It was great. We talked about the offense and they laid everything out for me," Ford said.

Ford was originally scheduled to visit Miss. State this weekend, but trekked to the Plains instead. Ford, the Commodores pledge, was hesitant in his response to describe where the Tigers stood following the visit.

"Auburn is real good," Ford said. "That's all I'm going to say. I'm still committed though."

Ford will return home and talk with his parents to discuss his next move.

So he did not meet with their RB coach? Oh yeah, that's right. Nevermind. :zeitung_lesen:

Doesn't sound too positive for Auburn.

Vol?

I agree not real positive sounding for auburn. VQ thinks vandy is in a bad spot so we have to feel good about it. I keep thinking vandy is still very much in this but I am deferring to the VQ boys on that one.

I actually have Ford in my Vol column. I'd be really surprised if we whiffed on RBs this round. The opportunity is there for the taking: come in and be THE guy for this class. No questions. Doesn't sound like that's too hard to sell.

I feel like Vandy is more dangerous than we perceive in this kid's recruitment. Though I do wonder what happened to Franklin's "you can't commit if you visit elsewhere" policy.

I Think vandy is a huge threat here but VQ which I trust is telling me otherwise

Fort with VQ has inferred a number of times that tenn is ahead of vandy with auburn to worry about. Also many think Jf told ford to shut down the visits or his spot is in jeopardy

thanks guys. sometimes telling a kid to shut down the visits works and sometimes it can backfire.

For the record, just because people here are stating it as fact... Uzzi has never confirmed his identity. It is just widely accepted that he is Ritzman due to his apparent closeness to Lawson and long time membership to TOS

Very true and good to point that out. I also don't recall how good he is at predicting recruiting outcomes from the past. I've enjoyed his posts, but I think he's gotten a little too confident with a few of his predictions lately. For example, he indicated Levenberry is likely a Vol yesterday, and I don't think that one is as close as some suggest. We may get him, but I'm not confident on him.

Didn't I just read "I'm still committed" from Ford? How is Vandy not the favorite?
Trying to trick our own minds doesn't make something happen.
Sometimes fact is stronger than fiction.

I'm wondering if us not having one rb committed by now is hurting us with other rb's on our board more than most realize. I'm thinking other schools may be starting to sell kids on coming in with another good back or two in the same class to minimize wear & tear so they're fresher when they get to the league. We've seen it more & more lately. It seems our situation offering immediate PT would have definitely been an advantage in the past but maybe not so much anymore.

The sad thing about it is it just takes one. If just one would hop on board, then it would open the gate. Problem is getting that one I reckon.

that was a big selling point to keith marshall and gurley who were close friends and who wanted to play together and it was a big reason clemson lost out on gurley in the end. they wanted to share carries and yes you are hearing that more and more where bigtime rbs want to share the load so they aren't worn out in college which will could hurt their pro career.

Sadly, see Marcus Lattimore.

In the parlance of today's recruits, the word "committed" means very little. In some cases, it truly can mean "I am firmly committed to school X and will be taking no further visits." Reading between the lines, however, I believe that it far more frequently means "this is the school I am leaning toward (however slightly) right now." The implications of those two statements are worlds apart.

I'm sure that's how the sequence of events played out. Especially seeing as though Ford was up here on an official visit and is being constantly recruited before Green made his decision.

Not saying this may not be a perception, but the reality is we have two very good RB's (Neal and Lane) to share carries with. This could continue into next year with the ability to recruit another good RB to share the load.

I would still view UT's current situation as a favorable one for any RB to consider.

Yeah, but whoever we get will share carries with Neal and Lane, so I doubt that's it.

I think other coaches have a good, negative spin on UT right now that is working. Constant coaching turnover, losing seasons, coach hired that a chunk of the fan base didn't want, havent placed a running back high in the draft in a long time, unreasonable fanbase, etc.

CBJ will do ok with this class. What he really needs to focus on is turning around the narrative of Tennessee. It shouldn't be that hard. Our facilities and tradition are up there with anyone in the country.

REX-it works both ways-ala-Tubberville ! Have faith! We have a running back with a "Clemson" tatoo.:)

That we do. I would just like to see us win some recruiting battles, especially at RB. Waiting for kids to be recruited over or asked to look elsewhere by other schools so we can pick them up late is getting old.
