Dalton Santos will visit Texas next weekend.
The Texas coaches reached out to Van linebacker Dalton Santos a few days ago, extending a verbal scholarship offer, and Santos will now join Johnson on a UT official visit next Friday.

"Honestly, it just happened a couple days ago. Coach (Stacy) Searels will be here, coach (Mack) Brown and caoch (Manny) Diaz on Wednesday. think Then I'm taking a visit up there next week," Santos said.

Santos is a player who has seen his stock shoot through the roof of late, especially after an impressive showing at the Under Armour All-American game, and Texas made contact with the hard-hitting linebacker with a phone call last week.

"Coach Searels called me. He said a spot is open and it's yours. He asked if I wanted to take an official visit and I told him I did," Santos said. "Right now I'm still committed to Tennessee, but we'll see what happens."

The 6-3, 251-pound Santos has been committed to Tennessee since August but he's been exploring other options. Last week he visited Arkansas and Texas now has its chance to make a strong impression.

"I'm from Texas. Texas has big interest in my book," Santos said. "We're going to think about it, get down there and check it out, and see how it goes."

One factor on which Texas can lean is proximity, but Santos said it's more than just distance that has the Longhorns shooting up his list.

"Really, Texas is Texas. If it was just about being close, Arkansas would be there, Texas A&M, schools like that," Santos said. "There's just something about that place (Texas)."

At the Under Armour game, Santos had a chance to hang out with a number of Texas commitments, and the future Longhorn players made a strong impression.

"I played with a bunch of guys up there in the Under Armour game - like Malcom Brown, Peter Jinkens. We just clicked," Santos said.

Texas had gone by Van previously but didn't have any available scholarships. The numbers have since become more flexible, opening the door for Santos to pick up a verbal offer and line up his visit. Next weekend will be key in Santos' decision, but he does admit that Texas is a school that he's followed closely for some time.

"I grew up in a family that's Texas Longhorn fans to the end," Santos said. "Growing up a Texas fan, that helps them out a ton. We'll just have to see."

Texas is recruiting Santos to play inside linebacker.

If he does go to Texas I wish him well. Austin is a pretty awesome place to live. Still my gut feels like he will be a Vol. Either way he doesn't break or make this class.

I know all the great things he said about Sal and to the recruiting sites , but when he didn't visit here a week or so ago I started feeling this way. Sal was hired and I know the drive was long , but he should have been here helping Danny and the other commits recruit and checking out his future school. I just think not showing up said more than anything he said in any interview.

IIRC, they were going to fly. If so, tickets are something like triple that late. If you are going to drive it then you probably don't just pack up on Friday afternoon and take off. I'm not that worried about that.

This kid wants to be sure. Respect his right to do that.

I feel you. I kind of felt the same way. But, I think you're not taking into account two things. 1.) They aren't a particularly wealthy family and 2.) Van Tx is a long a** way away. I'm 10 + hrs away in NE LA and he's another 3-4 West of here. So to have to drive 14-15 hrs both ways on your own dime (gas isn't cheap) without knowing who your DC is gonna be, he had a legit case.

so basically texas is saying you are a second option to us, we didn't have scholarship for you. but tennessee did and was up front and developed a relationship with him and his entire family. IMO if that dude decides to go to Texas b/c he is scared people in texas won't like him going to Tennessee, then we don't need that attitude. If we wouldn't have recruited at the LB position so well last year I would be worried. but its not like a big time DT that was committed to us. for instance if EG was committed to us and was wavering i would be freaking out.

Wow! This changes my tune a bit. I still hope we get him, but Danny Obrien is my new favorite recruit. This guy is just too wish washy.

hahaha :eek:lol:

at how bad he is playing UT id rather him just de-commit and let us use that scholarship elsewhere.

this is dawson, wright and scroggins 2.0.

at some point you have to have some respect for your program, he is an elite talent no doubt, but might as well be not committed at all.

Go ahead and take him off the commit list. He's a Longhorn.

No he isn't. Stop being stupid.

He will take his visit then he will let everyone know. If he chooses them, so be it. His prerogative. The Vols have done all they can with him.

If he sticks with the Vols then we will know that he is 100% certain.

Never been much on predictions, so I'll just ask this, Who do we need to fill the spots of Gray and Santos????

Still alot of talent left out there and maybe can setup a signing day splash or twooo..GBO
