tired of the games... in JUNE?

are yall being serious?

I am talking about the "Games" the local kids are playing speaking to the media about wanting that Tennessee offer..only to get it an announce another team as the leader. Some players are worth holding a spot for and waiting it out until NSD...maybe CDD and staff feel these kids are not in that group. While it may rub some the wrong way, it appears as the staff is not overly concerned with them.

I have no information here, and I'm not quite sure what to think, so bear that in mind, but. . .

Doesn't the fact that he's reportedly choosing between Cincy, Vandy, and ND support a claim that UT could be backing off. If he were the kind of guy we desperately needed but were getting out-recruited for, wouldn't you expect someone like Florida, Alabama, Auburn, or LSU on that list?

Not necessarily.I think what we can take from that is he has developed good relationships with those staffs and he likely wants to play in a spread offense where he can get some early PT.

If he wants early PT it would be hard to come by at the big 4 you mentioned. They are all pretty loaded with elite talent at his position.

+1. I don't know what is happening, but something strange is going down. Why would he choose from Cincy, Vandy, and ND. Where is FL, Bama, and Auburn on this final list he has? This makes very little sense to me. I want Kimbrow on our team b/c of his talent level, but what is going on? Elite talent should be choosing from elite programs... That is what I can't figure out.

Why would the staff all of a sudden just let up on Kimbrows recruitment? It makes no sense after telling him he's a #1 priority. Regardless of the circumstances, you just don't stop or back off, which is essentially the same thing, the state’s top player, especially when he's in position of need. We need to increase, playmaking ability and team speed. He has both or he wouldn't have the offer list that he has. Every top school has offered, but UT backs off or stops recruiting him. I'm not buying it. These unsubstantiated rumors have to stop.

So because they are losing out on him it means the staff wasn't overly concerned about it? How do you know this? They can't speak publicly about it so there is no basis to come to that conclusion.

Why would they put in the time and effort to get the kid to campus just over a week ago if they didn't want him or didn't care? It's been stated time and time again by people in the know, that are close to the coaching staff that he has always been at the very top of their board, if not the #1 overall priority.

Maybe they were just out-recruited by other schools. It wouldn't be the first time or the last time.

I don't think UT has backed off at all. But everyone has to admit that a kid with the offers BK has shouldn't be choosing between Cincy, Vandy, and ND. That's all I'm saying...

I don't understand why people are doing mental gymnastics here. Trying to convince yourself we don't need Kimbrow or don't want him is naive at best. We need/want him because he's dynamic, skilled, and not least of all, he's from Tennessee and I personally believe we need to keep most of the instate kids in orange.

Is there any proof they have backed off? Who's saying they have?

Just fans speculating as they always do when it becomes apparent Tennessee is going to lose out on a recruit.

Nobody reliable has said anything about Tennessee backing off. All they've said consistently is that he's always been at the top of the staff's board.

The staff extended an offer to alot of the instate kids, it's just none of them seem to want to be Vols. Oh well...moving along.

Another problem I would guess is that a lot of these kids don't remember the 90's - specifically '98. I read an article on VQ today where a DT from LSU didn't even realize we used to be great - all some of these kids see are w's.

Jelks and Bowles do, Redmond may very well be one. If we offer Azubike he, also, may end up one.

Are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU bringing in recruiting classes of 4 and 5 stars with only 4 qualifying?

Well Auburn is fixing to be put on probation, and all of those teams have won recently. They can get top talent that also have brains. What I am saying is that the only top talent we can get without winning on the field are going to be kids that can't get it done in the classroom. These kids want to get in and play early and get out and onto the NFL as quick as possible. Also these are the ones that usually need to go to Juco, and I am not attacking you but alot of the guys you say we need are going to be heading the Juco route.

Maybe the kid is looking for a place he can play more and or see the field sooner. Maybe he is one of those depth chart watchers. Maybe he feels he has elite speed, but as a RB...his skill set is average. Alot of things could explain his wanting to play at a Vandy/Cinci/ND. Maybe he staff did something he did not care for...who knows.

If he is as good as advertised, depth chart shouldn't matter. If he truly wants to shine in the spread, go to Oregon, TX Tech or Utah. LOL.

I doubt any of them remember that far back.

I dont think a lot of people on here remember either the type of elite talent Tennessee had back then.

You would never see conversations like the "we dont need Kimbrow because of Devrin Young" type stuff.

Back then they were landing elite player after elite player ever single year at the same positions. Nobody was concerned about having another guy on the roster with a similar skill set. They were just concerned about continuing the influx of elite talent sort of like what Alabama and LSU is doing today.

Don't even get me started on Jelks. Redmond did the same thing in saying how much he wanted an offer and then leaves Tennessee out of his top 4. If all these kids are passed on by the staff...I could care less.

Azubike I would not group with the others as he does not have an offer.

Sab doesn't usually talk out of his ass. If he says we're backing off, I'm going to give it at least some credence. All I know is that he looks like a guy we could seriously use and his list of finalists seems bizarre for as talented a player as he is.

I will say that I don't buy the Devrin Young crap for a minute.

Not sure what rumors your talking about and I doubt we have backed off but as Fortenberry stated is that they wouldn't lose sleep over not getting him. He's not an every down back, atleast not at UT he wouldn't be
Would like to get his speed but he knows he wouldn't get the touchs here he would at Vandy or Cincy. He better fits their offense ESP to get the touchs he wants. Its much harder to find a big, talented bruising back than a small fast one.He and Young are very similar so I'm guessing that's why the staff isn't that worried. There's several small similar backs like him

No problem. I wasn't taking it as an attack. The bottom line is they need elite talent period. I'm not sure which guys I've said they need are heading to JUCO. I've said they need to increase their level of talent across the board and a lot of the guys I've mentioned at DT / LB, etc... already have Tennessee offers. I doubt Tennessee would have offered if they were locks to end up in JC. I dont see how Kimbrow could have an ND and Vandy offer if he was a lock for JC.

They can bring in all the heady, undiscovered, under the radar, 2 and 3* guys they want but the results will be similar to what we've seen these last 3 seasons if they do that.
