Who will Kimbrow choose?

Nobody is arguing LB, DE and DT being the most important. But they still have to get elite talent wherever they can. Tennessee doesn't exactly have an LSU or Alabama type roster.

I think Kimbrow fills a bigger need than Jelks and Bowles do IMO. All three would be nice gets. They just dont have anyone like Kimbrow on the offensive side of the ball right now.

What role does he fill? Not a WR (bad hands per reports) and not a every down back. How is he different than Young iyo? Oku couldn't make it in this system....I don't think these little scat backs are what Dooley/Chaney want.

If it's true that UT is passing on Kimbrow, and the school that signs him doesn't get slammed with NCAA sanctions over his recruitment, this is the dumbest recruiting move by a UT coach since Fulmer let Alabama take Dont'a Hightower.

Agreed. Some people are going to freak out regardless of the context (good or bad). Tuthfully though, I will be disappointed if we miss on Kimbrow, Redmond, Bowles, etc even though we have bigger needs because I really do think it's important that we can take the best players in Tennessee every year. The only reason this would hurt is because they are Tennesseans.

If so this staff is making some weird moves. Going out of state like Kiffin for players. When he has some legit talent he needs to lock down inside his own state. Two 4.2 guys that are tearing up camps everywhere, what the hell is the problem?

I will say this.. and you all can call me all the names you like for doing so. If I were CDD and the local in state kids were playing this "Please offer me" and then announcing they have no interest in UT....I would say to hell with em and go seek my talent elsewhere. It's not like passing on a few local kids is going to bring down the program as they are very few and far between. There is just not alot of SEC caliber talent in state. Maybe 1 decent year...and then 5 years of 1-2 players.

He could be different than Young in the sense that he is just a better more talented player.

I dont know why people keep comparing Young and Kimbrow. I dont see the comparison. One has gone all over the country and totally dominated at every camp/combine he's been at against the best competition in the country while the other had exactly how many BCS offers? 1 that was committable?

Only Tennessee fans would find ways to spin things to the effect that the guy nobody else wanted is somehow equal or better than the guy all these coaches in the country evaluated and wanted.

I just dont see the similarities between the two that some of you do.

This guy has elite offers from great proven coaching staff's. But Tennessee with an unproven head coach and a roster with depleted talent is the only one passing on him? Come on.

lol. Hightower was a Bama fan, and his high school coach is a huge Bama supporter. Fulmer was an idiot in that recruitment, but he didn't "let" Bama take him. It was over when Saban offered.

Do we need Kimbrow? Yes. Do I care anymore? No. Wake me when it's over. There is too much drama floating around his recruitment now. IMO, this all goes back to UT's shotty recruiting in Memphis. It will take quite a while to repair it and I don't think anyone should be surprised at all.

montrell spitting that hot fire...but he is right. young hasnt proven anything to pass up on kimbrow

It is funny how alot of posters on here like to use that excuse for one situation and not another. (Not aying you Cane) I am just using your quote...

Alot of the posters here are ready to name Marlin Lane or Tom Smith the starter over Poole and neither of them have had a carry. I guess it's ok to use Devrin's not having played to declare Kimbrow is just so much better as he seems to be alot of posters whipping boy on here. :eek:lol:

I agree. Sometimes you have to play hardball.

I would love to have Kimbrow, but face it we are ok at RB.

completely different things. c'mon man.

the equivalent would be not recruiting Marlin Lane or Smith at all because of Smith.

you dont PASS on a player with legit playmaking ability because you have ONE other skill player with a similar skill set.

I never said TN was passing on him....not the case at all. I just don't see the role he fits and why he is a must have.

EXACTLY!!! It's the SEC. You need as many legit playmakers as possible to compete, especially when your roster is in the shape Tennessee's is in.

Is it possible that there are other guys who got bumped up the board?

As a football player, there really isn't an argument to not take Kimbrow. Nuff said.

Like I said earlier, if we don't get Kimbrow, we'll find out why after NSD most likely.

Doubtful when you consider all the time and effort they have put into recruiting Kimbrow. They put a lot of work to get him on to campus last week. The guys on VQ have said forever that Kimbrow was at the very top of the staff's wish list for the '12 class.

I will admit I was ok with taking him if he came on board early. I can see where Kimbrow would get 3-5 carries a game and have a chance to break one later in a game. We have several players who are 4.4 type guys and can break the same play for a long TD run that have 25-40 pounds on him. I have said this many times before...I would take 4.4 @200lbs anytime over 4.3@165. The bigger back will prove to be alot more useful IMO.

Maybe CDD did not pass on him. Maybe CDD decided he was tired of the games and said "You have a spot if you want it NOW...if not..good luck to you". Just tossing out a possibility.

Why is it an either/or thing?

Having the threat of both makes it a lot tougher on defenses than just having to focus on the straight ahead 200 lber out there.

Good coaching staffs figure out a way to use both advantageously. That is exactly why they have wanted Kimbrow for so long. He is the type of guy that would keep defenses off-balance and would allow them to throw a new wrinkle at them from time to time.

tired of the games... in JUNE?

are yall being serious?

who?

Neal is the fastest running back at under 4.4 ...

Who are these several 4.4 types? Where were they last season?

LOL So CDD is tired of his games in June but on the other hand people shouldn't be panicking about this recruiting class in June because it is so early......? If it is so early then why in the world would Dooley care at this point about "games"?

No way they backed off him. It's just sour grapes and a predictable response when they lose out on a recruit, especially a kid who is arguably the top prospect in the state who also happens to fill a rather big need.

I have no information here, and I'm not quite sure what to think, so bear that in mind, but. . .

Doesn't the fact that he's reportedly choosing between Cincy, Vandy, and ND support a claim that UT could be backing off. If he were the kind of guy we desperately needed but were getting out-recruited for, wouldn't you expect someone like Florida, Alabama, Auburn, or LSU on that list?
