I don't get the "but we have D. Young, so we don't need Kimbrow"... If D. Young turns out to be a baller, and I really hope he does, he could be a hit away from an injury. Nothing wrong at all with having Kimbrow to back him up. 2 are better than 1.

No doubt, and by the way when was the last time UT has won anything relevent. I know we have tradition and we have great facilities, but I don't know a bunch of top tier players that want to get smacked around by Florida and Alabama among others every year. We need to produce on the field before we can truly produce in recruiting. Look what a NC or a good QB on payroll can do for your recruiting. We took a step in the right direction last year, (should hve won at LSU and UNC in the bowl game) and Dooley will get us there without getting us put on probation. Just relax and be patient and good things will come.

Well Alabama and Auburn both had good recruiting classes following mediocre years a few years ago. But it is Saban, but not sure how Au is doing it..Oh wait..$$$

Relax...we're trying.

Patient...of course. We're giving em till september.

Great post. + 10000 :good!:

I kind of get the feeling that if Montrell was the coach we would have a class full of 4 and 5 stars and about 4 of them would qualify. But hey they sure would look good at some community college in mississippi or kansas.

Are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU bringing in recruiting classes of 4 and 5 stars with only 4 qualifying?

I'd call top 15 classes great. We have to get to elite to start competing in the SEC, but he has certainly signed great classes.

They would be considered great if they were just about any other conference. But in the SEC you have 5 and 6 schools every year bringing in Top 15 classes and a few of those Top 5 every year. So I'd go with good.

The key will be can they bring in Top 15 caliber classes for 5 consecutive years. If they can do that, then you will start seeing them push back in among the Top 5 or so programs in the SEC. You cannot afford to have a down year in recruiting in this conference.

The problem is they dont need an every down back. They have plenty of those. They need a speed back to compliment an every down back. Dooley has that said publicly a number of times in the last year.

That is true.

What I would like to see though is a guy around 5'10-5'11 185-190lbs that has sub 4.4 speed.

That way you've got a guy that is big enough to take a few hits and still has great speed, and that would allow us to use that player more often.

Whether we can find/get a guy like that this year is the question.

I agree hes had to very good classes and underrated. Hunter should have been a 5 star, Propst was very underrated, Stone should have been a high 4 star,Neal and Rivera were only 3 stars,Bray was only a 3star and these were just from Scout. In 2011 Orta and Jackson could end up being very good players and they were just 3 stars,Matin,Worley,Randolf and Coleman were only 3 and could very well have been 4 stars, and Christian Harris also. We ahd some guys who were 4 stars on various other sites. Just saying i think his 2 classes even though were top 15, very easily could be top 10 with the talent some of these guys have. 2 very underrated classes, IMO. I know only time will tell but i really like the talent hes brought in. Plus Lane if he hadnt been hurt would have been a 5 star and easily top 2 backs in the nation.

disagree. I think the rankings are very important, but a top 15 class, even in this conference, can be great. These classes have set up a pretty nice foundationn to build off of. Especially the '10 class. '11 is still unproven of course, but it looks like we increased quality depth on oline, may have actually brought in SEC caliber LBs, and possibly made the secondary a strength for the future. Now, I don't think this class will be top 15. But if we land the WRs, DTs, and LBs it looks like we have a decent shot for, then it could be considered a very good class. I mean, we will have to get back into the elite type classes to compete for the SEC, but the past two classes have set up a nice foundation for the future.

Lol. This thread has gotten pathetic. Anyone who thinks we don't need Kimbrow should just stop posting here.

If UT doesn't get Kimbrow, which sounds like the case as if now, then I'm sure we'll find out why some time after NSD. So, let's stop speculating and making wild assumptions. Lol @ backing off of him. I really hope that's not the case, and I really don't think it is.

No way they backed off him. It's just sour grapes and a predictable response when they lose out on a recruit, especially a kid who is arguably the top prospect in the state who also happens to fill a rather big need.

If Kimbrow was a LB or DT I would worry...not worried about a 170 rb really.

Now if we lose Jelks or Browles to vandy I will worry.

Nobody is arguing LB, DE and DT being the most important. But they still have to get elite talent wherever they can. Tennessee doesn't exactly have an LSU or Alabama type roster.

I think Kimbrow fills a bigger need than Jelks and Bowles do IMO. All three would be nice gets. They just dont have anyone like Kimbrow on the offensive side of the ball right now.
