Their 4th and 5th running backs, Hilliard and Magee, have 30 and 27 attempts all year, respectively. If you call that playing I suppose the punter's one TD run that got called back qualifies him as the 6th running back.
Actually Hillard goes from FB to RB, when Ware was suspended he was promoted to the #2 back ahead of Blue.
For instance Hillard has 5 TDs but only 1 came in garbage time, LSU likes to play 3-5 backs. In 2008-2009 this was not an option due to injuries and lack of players. Ford has actually been the 4th option at times this year. No, not all of them are going to get 20 carries a game, as LSU doesn't like any of their backs to get 20 if possible.
I have watched the games, you do not. Magee is starting to get reps as well but as of now most of those are in garbage time, but not all of them. LSU will play 3-5 backs, unless they don't have 3-5 horses in the stables.
Gore is small and is more a 3rd down back but I have heard good things about him. Gore is actually listed as WR on the roster.
LSU has shown if you can play you will get on the field as they are playing on any given week 70-80 guys. It is not surprising to see 3rd and 4th string guys in on D and I am not talking about garbage time.
RB
Ware #1 back
Ford #2 (most of the time)
Blue #3
Hillard #4 (but played the #2 back against Auburn and when they want to run the FB he plays FB)
Magee #5 (mostly cleanup, could be the #1 back down the line)
Gore #6 (too small to be an every down back, will get more reps down the line and I believe LSU will be using him more like they do Shepard at WR)
FB
Stampley #1 FB (walkon)
Copeland #2
Hillard #3 (but is #1 for running the FB)
LSU plays a ton of guys, out of all the scholarship RB/FBs I believe Gore is the only one not to get significant playing time as he only has like 8 carries and he is a Freshman, of course he is the #6 RB and probably the #6 WR. LSU will need 1-2 Rbs for the 2012 class.
In all fairness, Bourque is probably a redshirt candidate, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but LSU will take Hill if he is willing to come. By the time Bourque is ready to play, Blue/Ware/Ford will be Seniors and Hillard/Magee will be juniors.
