'11 MS JUCO DB Izauea Lanier (Tennessee Commit)

I know I wasn't the only one who got nervous when I got a text from VolNation last night. I was thinking, "Oh crap, who got arrested'...

I'm late to the party, but here we go!

"I committed to them about an hour ago (10 p.m. ET)," Lanier said. "It feels great to have it done. Coach (Terry) Joseph has been great.

"Like I said, he never backed off.

I loved the coaches and the surroundings up there when I visited. I just decided there was nothing else to look at. The best opportunity was at Tennessee and they made it clear how much they wanted me."

Yes it has. But more info is never looked down upon. Maybe some who don't want to look through 8 pages of info will find it useful.

Lanier thought he could still make it as an EE (being able to sign early was a condition of the offer), but his grades said otherwise... Once the staff saw he wouldn't make the grades in time, the offer was pulled... There was no way he was going to make it in... AU signed this kid out of HS and he was our very first commit in this class(maybe 2nd)... I can promise you he was AU's if we wanted him... This by no means a knock on UT or UF or even Lanier, for that matter... Like I said above, he is one hell of an athlete that will help out the Vols tremendously... Great pull for them...

-Auburn fans story on why Lanier and AU parted ways.

Also seen that Lanier apparently has a younger brother that has a great chance to be the #1 prospect in Alabama in 2013.

I know that Lanier wanted to commmit to TN about a month ago but the coaches backed off a tad when he didn't get in early. I am wondering if maybe they brought in Orta this weekend and determined that Lanier is much more ready to contribute immediatly and have picked him "over" Orta.

They are both CB prospects and Izzy would come in and be able to be in the two deep...Orta would probably need a year or so.

That's how I see it, it can't be coincidence that we take his commitment right after we get to see Orta in person. Orta also raved about how TN could get anyone they want, I think he would be a Vol if he can be...don't think we will have room (if we get Moore or Loften)

We now have 5 spots remaining.

Three will be filled by Richardson, Clear, and Lane. That leaves two spots for someone not named Gabe Wright. If he chooses the Vols it will cancel out as Carson will not be a Vol.

2 spots for: Byron Moore, Lamar Dawson, Kent Turene, Rory Anderson, Geraldo Orta, or anybody else.

There is also a possibility Lanier is not a Vol, as he has changed his mind many times already.

Ridiculous we are not dropping Carson.
