'11 MS JUCO DB Izauea Lanier (Tennessee Commit)

I know that Lanier wanted to commmit to TN about a month ago but the coaches backed off a tad when he didn't get in early. I am wondering if maybe they brought in Orta this weekend and determined that Lanier is much more ready to contribute immediatly and have picked him "over" Orta.

They are both CB prospects and Izzy would come in and be able to be in the two deep...Orta would probably need a year or so.

That's how I see it, it can't be coincidence that we take his commitment right after we get to see Orta in person. Orta also raved about how TN could get anyone they want, I think he would be a Vol if he can be...don't think we will have room (if we get Moore or Loften)

For the most part, I agree.

I believe that Lanier saw that our class was filling up and if he was a reader of any recruiting sites like this one, he knew that Moore was higher on our board than he was. With that understanding, it was time to stop playing the game and commit while he knew he could.

As for Orta, I think we have slow played him all the way, and this past weekend we again put him on the back burner until we see what Moore does. If we sign Moore (better than 50/50 chance, imo) I think we let Orta go somewhere else mostly because of the numbers crunch, but also because we have pretty much filled as much of our needs at DB as we would want to do in one class.

Orta's post visit interview was telling -- for all practical purposes he said that he would like to be a Vol as soon as we would take him.

What is with the Carson hate? Is it because Rivals ripped him in an evaluation and gave him a 2 star ranking

I just think we have more pressing needs than a freshman DT who won't likely play year 1 anyway. Already with Couch and Saulsberry...if we get Wright, Carson has to go. Couch/Walls/Hughes/Jackson is a good starting four + we have many bodies during garbage minutes.

LB/RB/TE are much more dire situations.

Does anyone think that Florida going to more of a passing attack influence our decision to recruit DBs harder? I know Fulmer had to recruit more DBs to combat Spurrier at UF. Looking at our chief competitors for the East, stopping the pass looms large.

Sorry, TheDooley has spoken.

If Carson doesn't sign with UT on signing day it's NOT because the coaches told him to look elsewhere.

People have moved on from dropping Devrin & have now set their sights on Carson. Ridiculous phenomenon.

So Aubbie sends Lanier packing for a couple of HS kids..now the number #1 DB(Marcus Roberson) on their board picks Texas Tech..WOW!

Barn.Failure.

fascinating to hear we have good enough DL depth to drop Carson who is better than his star rating

great parenting right there. hold the mattress so your daughter goes flying down the stairs.

Seriously. What an idiot. Everyone knows you should cover the stairs with wet saran wrap before pushing your kids down a flight of stairs. Way less traction--easier clean up.

Getting a 4* commitment from a db who can contribute immediately doesn't bother me in any way, shape, or form. I don't care who else he might have liked, he's a Vol now!

Where's the real proof Ole Miss turned the guy down? People who run and write for team sites lie every. single. day. during recruiting, just like recruiters. It's easy for them. Recruits are much less likely than them to have a motive to make shiz up. I wanna hear what Lanier has to say about it.
