'11 MI WR DeAnthony Arnett - UT Commit

From the same board. Rumor squashed.

"I spoke with Arnett's brother and he said that Arnett did not commit to USC on his visit. There is definitely strong mutual interest between the two sides, but again, Arnett's brother is saying that he did not commit to USC. It's possible that Arnett may end up announcing his decision on ESPNU at some point in the future."

:)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this is complete horse dung. If this is true, though, then DeAnthony has made a horrible, horrible mistake.

Why because he did would have not chosen UT or bc your still butt hurt from Kiffin and thus any player going there is making a mistake?

No.

It has very little to do with Lane Kiffin. Let's face it: if DeAnthony picks Tennessee, not only is he looking at early playing time, but he is looking at flourishing in this system. We lose Gerald and Denarius after this season. Next year, we'll only have Zach (senior), Da'Rick (sophomore), Justin (sophomore), Matt (redshirt sophomore or freshman?), and Vincent (freshman). Adding DeAnthony would help our depth at wide receiver. He picks USC, and he'll find it very difficult to squeeze into an already crowded depth chart at WR. That goes without saying, the system under Kiffin is much less controlled than it is here under Dooley. If DeAnthony comes here, he will prosper, given all of the resources he has at his disposal (the coaches, the Vol For Life program, and of course, us, the fans). If he goes to USC, then he won't really prosper, because with Lane Kiffin and his staff, it is more about football and winning rather than developing the players as men (meaning in the classroom and in the real world as well as on the field).

Let me say again that the point of this argument is not about hating Lane Kiffin (even though many on here would be justified in doing so). I'm only saying that given the two depth charts and the cultures of both schools, it would not be a smart decision on DeAnthony's part to choose USC. If he does, however, or if he chooses any other school, for that matter, it will sting a little, but I won't really lose sleep over it.

Kiffin is a classless, self-serving, disloyal con artist. I was mad like most Vol fans but in retrospect it is probably a blessing. If CLK had been at UT a full three years then he still would have moved on to greener pastures but more than likely left UT with an NCAA mess. His goal was to win as fast as possible. He was apparently willing to bend or break rules to get there. Why? Quite likely because he never anticipated being around long enough to suffer with the Vols and knows that stuff doesn't follow the coaches.

He was in fact doing what he thought he had to do. He had no real respect for UT. He thought he had to cheat/push the limits to get players to UT.

just think for a minute.... USC can only take 10. I doubt Arnett is good enough to one of the ten. maybe if they still had 25 to sign, but not with only 10

They have a 10 scholarship penalty per year for three years, but regardless, Arnett would still be a take for them.

It's 15. They have a long snapper committed right now, Arnett would most definitely be a take.
