11' GA TE Jay Rome

So what? Who needs a pair of talented pass catching tight ends? Neither one of them will be the receiver that a slot guy is and neither is a particularly gifted blocker. If you're trying to employ both on a lot of plays, you'll give up something.

I sure wouldn't mind having both on our team JMO. Charles and Rome are both very talented TE's that can be a real threat receiving. Either one would start at TE for UT from day 1 and would be a huge addition. Bray would be ecstatic to have either. We will have hardly no experience at WR at all next year except Hunter. A playmaking TE would be huge for a still young QB in Bray. And ATM we do not have one in Rivera.

Next year you will see our staff turn Murray loose alot more. Murray is a very mobile QB, having good catching TE's is a big plus. I don't think Rome will see alot of action his FR year but he will be THE GUY to replace Charles, that's the biggest key in getting him.

Thanks for the objective insight on this. Rome is a HUGE target for us.

I'm not arguing that we wouldn't take either. We would. I don't see the benefit of having both, which he said will be plus.

that makes sense.

Could start as Fr at Tennessee or sit behind Orson Charles for 2 years. Kid is not thinking clearly!

Some players wanna sit for a couple years, Then play 1-2 and save there body from being beat up for 3-4 years. IMO :twocents:

Sorry if this has been posted, but Chad Simmons just tweeted that Rome will make his decision on January 20th between Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Rome was supposed to announce on Jan. 20 but now it seems that the date has been called off. Maybe Rome will take the rest of his visits or he will announce before Jan. 20. He'll probably make it to UT as well after all. We'll just have to be patient.

One of his visits is to Clemson, that's the one that concerns me. Did you guys know that Clemson has 2 five star WR's commited without a proven QB, that should sound the alarms.

If he did anything other than that, it would be the surprise of the year.

Well, given the new info a few posts above me, it certainly does make it interesting. However, I won't retract my statement just yet.

However...if he does go anywhere besides Georgia, I think he goes to UT.

It seems that the announcement is now back on for Jan. 20th. I would like to get this over with already. We need Rome to go public now to help us with our other targets.

Dawg.

Are chances are slim but atleast we get his visit this weekend. He will be on campus with Mitchell which I believe will commit to us over UGA. Hopefully he can sway Rome. I know it has seemed that UA was down his list but we are getting the OV which can only help.

In regards to Clemson, no alarms are needed because remember they play in the ACC. Nothing makes sense over there except they only use football to support their BBall.
