I think this kid would be a solid start at the QB position for '10. He's got the specs and has shown the potential to mature into a above-average prospect at the select camps... with Rettig turning us down, I think we need to offer him ASAP. He wants to be here and I don't see this in any way adversely affecting our recruitment of J. Scroggs. If Scroggs wants to be here, the #2 QB out of Washington shouldn't scare him away.

I know nothing about him. I don't think he helps with recruiting that much which is why we need someone rigth now.. he jsut is not high profile enough. He would not help with Ambles / Prater / etc

Why not. They've both shown serious interest in us and we've shown it back. I think if we get an official from them then it gives us a much much much better chance obviously

When do the new rivals rankings come out? There is no one now other then Newton or Scroggins that is not committed. We could at least put his name out there. I mean his Stats and the articles from camps speak for themselves. I understand he does not have that MTV like spotlight on him in the recruiting world. So considering that are you saying we offer Newton? Who else is there to offer right now. A Jones or something is a signing day thing isn't it? What if he comes out as a 3 star or a 4 star?

Yeah, that's it. Jesse Scroggins just randomly became interested in USC a couple of weeks ago. And Jake Heaps just magically discovered Mormonism a few months ago and decided to commit to BYU.

I don't know when they play to re-do them. they are out now. I don't see Grayson jumping up very high and Retting is not going to either on next release of rankings.

I think getting Scroggins would help us land Ambles, but I agree with you on Prater. Just too much of a long shot at this point. I don't think we'd land more than 3 other commitments as a direct result of getting Scroggins, but that's JMO, and we'll probably never know anyway because I believe Scroggins is USC bound.

I change me opinion.......I was impressed. I have seen better tho.

The Good
1. Has a good arm and is accurate. He would put the ball low to where only HIS reciever could get it. I liked that.
2. He checked down to his second reciever some.
3. Squared his shoulders to the line of scrimmage while on the run (this hleps him be accurate while on the run).
4. Seemed to keep his cool under the presure and not panic.
5. I really liked that when he was throwing the ball to the endzone, he threw it to the back corner of the endzone. That is harder to do then it looks.
6. Looked like he played against good competition.

The Bad
1. Always was in the Pistol Pete package. Nothing under center.
2. Under threw his reciever some.

Is it me or is there something a little strange with his release? Especially on the deep balls.

This is my main issue too. I am not concerned with package. He was under center once or twice though I believe. I watched the under throws and it seems that when he throw to the outside he under threw I believe three times. Each one was a pass over 30 yards. It did not seem like he did not have the arm just that he missed judged. Our did not think he needed to give it a little more. Scroggins is way ahead of him at this part of the game. The 30-40 yard pass Scroggins is still sickly accurate. But if we lose Scroggins I would like to see what our coaches could do with this guy.

He has a ll the physical tools. He seems humble. And he is definitely a competitor from the film.

If you had a QB could run a 4.6 40, would you but him under center? The only running threat from UC is boot or sneak. You can see in the film that they ran QB ISOs, Zone read, QB draw, etc. I think the under throwing stuff has more to do with WR/QB chemistry and the inconsistent OLine play. JMHO.

Hell if hes as accurate as advertised then I say take him and tweak the mechanics...looks like a very athletic qb with a very crappy team. I would like to see him under center with a decent squad and defense though.

If we miss on Scroggins, this kid is our last resort. Its starting to look like we will only get Lamaison and MAYBE Cam Newton will be our QB "recruit" for the 2010 class. I really didnt expect it to be so hard to get a QB to come play here....the Rettig commit to BC caught me totally off guard. He basically said it was because we never showed much interest in him until he was about to commit to BC. it seems this staff may be too picky for its own good when it comes to a QB.

There was post by one of the guys on Rivals on the MB earlier this week that said they were gonna meet the 13th (today) to re-do the rankings. We can expect them to be released in the next week or so...
