There is a poll on VQ asking, "Which JUCO QB do you want the staff to bring in?" 146 votes so far:

Newton- 114 votes (78.08%)
Simms- 32 votes (21.92%)

Figured I would stir the pot a little bit more...

I'd say a poll asking which QB would do better against UGA would have read something like 99/1 in favor of Stephens last Friday.

It's happened before. It will happen again.

In general or with Meyer? Everyone will make their mistakes in recruiting. I'm sure Meyer has. Was just curious if you were sighting a specific example. I will say this. Recruiting websites make a lot of mistake in their ratings and judgement. Rarely does a player with a five star recruiting completely suck. The most recent I've seen that was decent at best was Vidal Hazelton. Even he managed to do alright. I just think Newton could manage a game. Serviceable at the very least.

Like I have said earlier. It is clear who is the most talented player between Newton and Simms. But it is also clear that there are other things going on with this that we don't know.

I don't know if he's had a recruiting bust yet at QB, but I'm sure he's had them at other positions. Edwin Herbert looks on track for it.

What? Was there anything in my post that didnt make sense?

No. It all made sense. I've just been annoyed tonight so I apologize. Our debating/arguing/bickering whatever you want to call it doesn't contribute to the thread. I just recall one of the mods saying without it, it's not much of a message board. I agree it can be annoying but at least it's on topic with thread at hand. Sort of... more annoying are the people that have like 100 posts and start a couple threads everyday with the most worthless crap. Those are the people that need to be told to leave it to the experts :p. Anyways, I know we don't know as much as the coaching staff but no one hear does. That's why we're talking about it for free on a message board and they're getting paid the big bucks. Just something to pass time with.

Never even heard of him so you're right haha.

Also, when speaking of not only our staff whiffing but recruiting sites... Ben Martin. Came to my head. He has done okay this season but as a junior, he hasn't lived up to what most five stars would. I really hope he gets more playing time and breaks out at some point.

See though, I can admit when I'm wrong. I don't know if Newton will be bad or amazing. I was just fighting for the guy saying he deserves a chance. I do stick by that rarely are you give a five star rating and aren't at least average. When it comes to the quarterback position right now, I'll take average.

"We're not going to do a lot of visiting, but we know we are going to visit Dan Mullen," said Cecil (Cam's dad). "We owe him that much. We're going to Mississippi State the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That's something we've been planning for a long time."

"There are about three other schools that we are looking at that I would rather not divulge at this time. Some schools from the Big 12 and the SEC," said Cecil. "We're just going to talk about all of that when the time is right. A lot of it is going to depend on what Cameron's post-season schedule looks like. We have to think about all of that. We know we won't have a lot of time."

Per Scout...

If Cam was a cancer aka coach killer aka not good enough aka not coachable aka trouble then why is Mullen hard after him????

Mullen has seen first hand this kid's talent and mental preparation. If he didn't think the guy was worth a second chance or an immediate impact player he wouldn't be after him.

If he wants to come to TN you take him without question.

I've been saying he will play at Miss State. There is no way he will end up at UT. We cannot afford to change our system for 2 years and then again for Bray or more of a pro-style passer.

Dan Mullen will promise Newton the starting job, and that will be it.

No you don't. You take who fits the best and who keep locker room continuity the best. Everything I have heard is that Cam is not a leader and is definitely a "me" kind of guy. Measureables can only get you so far before you have to show that your able to lead a team and not just drives on a football field. No matter how good his measureables are, if he isn't very cerebral on a football field he will NOT play here. We will see soon enough.

I don't believe JUCO QBs do much for your program.

I also think it's funny that people drool over Newton's measurables.

To me, Newton is like the sports car that has 450 HP and 425 ft/pounds torque. It looks nice on paper, but when you drive it you realize the handling sucks, the brakes are spongy, and the gearbox feels like its made out of cardboard.

When did you ride Newton?:p Sorry could not resist.

Shhh, don't tell Sab

That's been said for weeks. It's nothing new. I've already said I would be happy with whatever decision the coaches make. But the decision hasn't already been made as you've suggested.

Plus I totally disagree with your idea that the coaches aren't bringing in either guy with the thought process that he can play immediately and have success. If they do not believe that to be the case, then they won't take either. It makes zero sense to sign a JuCo QB unless you expect him to have an immediate impact and likely start. It's a waste of a scholarship if you already have 3 guys on the roster for the spring and think your starter is going to come out of that group.

What you are suggesting about JuCo QBs makes no sense.

There is a JUCO that signed with Tennessee three months ago that wishes this was true.

JUCO QBs are, the majority of the time, warm bodies.
