'10 JUCO QB Cameron Newton

Believe what you want. Our staff isn't gonna take a guy out of JUCO that got suspended for the game that we were coming to evaluate him in. If we were going to offer him, it would have came already.

Still a while to NSD Warrior. We all have hopes and opinions, me and UTFAN wanna see this guy in Orange, hopefully we'll get our wish granted. Who is ready to come in and compete for the job next year besides him?

There aren't many options for another QB right now. Scroggins isn't that interested. Rees may or may not look at us. Same with Rettig. Simms got benched. Newton isn't the best match for our offense and is a character issue. It is possible that the coaches may go with Stephens/Lamaison/Bray for next year and push for 2 high end QBs in the next class.

FYI... HVWarrior had a lot to do with putting together this recruiting forum on VN. He has a pretty solid creds, imo.
Well...if one is well-connected, then there should be some solid evidence to make dogmatic statements like that.

We have too many chiefs around here talking like they are on the staff, and giving us the low down on what transpires in the coaches meetings. You will usually here me state when I'm going on a hunch or just speculating. It get's old to hear people speak so definitively when they don't know any more than you or I.

A lot of folks speculated that VY was washed up...even Coach Fisher stubbornly felt Kerry Collins gave the Titans the best chance to win...with a horrible completion percentage and TD to INT ratio....even with a 0-6 record. I was one of the few that clamored for VY to be given the chance...before we flushed his career down the toilet. He's shutting the mouths of a whole bunch of speculators and naysayers right about now. Saying the very same kinds of things your are...that he's not a fit, not mature enough, etc, etc.

I guarantee you, Cam is huge improvement over Stephens in the passing game, and the combo of him and Bryce Brown would give defenses the same kind of fits that VY and Chris Johnson are. With him going one direction and BB the other, you don't know as a MLB who to pursue. Cam would be a nightmare for SEC defenses next year, paired with the talent we have in the backfield and at WR coming in. Bryce would bust a huge number of big runs on misdirection plays, as defenses can't overload to the side the RB is going...if they do, they'll end up getting burned by Newton on a keepers to the opposite side

Getting suspended for a quarter or half doesn't really amount to jack if the staff really thinks he can help.

There's an ignore button, dude. I really couldn't care less if you like what I say or not. He would be a Vol had he not got suspended. That's the reason he is in JUCO and not a Gator. He may be a great kid, but he's shown the ability to make dumb decisions, obviously.

I think a lot of this game is conjecture. Some just do it better than others. I mostly read a lot and try to figure out who has a good compass. HV is one of those guys. I think Sab does the same sort of work.

I don't know anything about inside sources. I don't think that's one of these guys. LWS likely has some of the closest ties. I have a hunch about a couple of posters that seem closer to the AD, but that's all just more conjecture on my part, too.

BTW... I had high hopes for Cam as well, but these points against him seem to ring true after a while.

Please continue.

Maybe, maybe not. JUCO QBs rarely come in and make a great impact, especially in their first year. He digressed from his Fr year to his So year at UF. He's blowing it up in JUCO, but so did Lamaison, so did Brent. It'd be just as possible for him to come in and be more of a distraction than a savior and I don't think this staff is backed that far into a corner. If we fail next year, it will be because of our revamped OL.

Newton isn't your typical JUCO QB. He's not there cause he was thrown off the team for too many failed drug tests, armed robbery with a bb gun...he's not there cause he can't play.

He's there because he wanted to transfer to another school and the only way to prevent sitting for another year, and yet still prove he's a baller, is to go the JUCO route in the interim and transfer after that season. Smart move to go to JUCO instead of sit for a full year, IMHO.
With all your deep connections, do you have any solid info as to why he was suspended for a quarter? Did he miss a meeting...oversleep (didn't Hardesty do that in fall camp or early season?)? If so, I guess CLK needs to kick Hardesty of the team right away.

VY's resurgence with the Titans, and how it is helping the offense by making teams choose on any given play whether they commit to stop him or Chris Johnson. If Collins is still the QB, we're still losing games. That says a lot. That's what we are facing next year with Stephens if we don't bring Cam in...IMHO.

Nope, I just know that it was enough for us to not offer him. If it wasn't enough, as I said, he would be a Vol. I'm not going to argue over his abilities. He's a prospect for sure, but he isn't going to show up anywhere and be All-SEC like some people think.

If he's an EE, I bet he is...and I'm not even a betting man. Why does the staff NEED to pull the trigger early with a JUCO QB, again? Why would it not be prudent to wait and evaluate the guy the whole season? What if he starts out hot and tanks toward the end? If you jump the gun, you just committed yourself.

Personally, I think they are STILL evaluating, and waiting to see what shakes out with a few HS kids, at the same time. It is rather presumptuous to state that the staff has moved on, when I have seen nothing to indicate that is indeed the case...a suspension for 1 qtr isn't enough to make such a rigid conclusion.

I stand corrected. He is an EE. I was thinking of someone else apparently.
If they room him up with a leader on the team with a good head on their shoulders...Walker or BB maybe?...I don't think we'll have anything to worry about with the guy. As the Proverb says "The Wise walk with the Wise, but the companion of fools suffer destruction."

Nuke and Teague were roommates. Doesn't always work out like you plan because he will still hang out with others.
I thought there was some tension between the two...or at least some rumblings along those lines, when Nuke was acting like he was going to transfer. Maybe jealous Teague was getting PT while he wasn't. May be nothing to that, but I don't know that we can assume he and Teague were best buds.

I would think Cam would take to guys that are likely future NFL players...such as BB or Walker

I don't know. I thought they were at least semi-close because I know they planned on rooming together at UF as well.

Brown would be a good roommate choice but he may already have a roomie. Either way, with him being an EE, I think that makes the chances of us offering that much less.
