'10 GA OLB Michael Taylor

I am going to comment understanding that "Verbal Commitments" are non binding but for some reason I do not get a good vibe about the way this recruiting class is going to end. Michael Taylor is my favorite defensive prospect we have committed up to this point with, IMO, having the most upside in a very badly needed position. To hear that he is reconsidering his commitment is frustrating. Losing Brandon Willis was frustrating as well and I keep hearing that Ambles is having serious thoughts about switching his commitment to Ole Miss. These are game changing commits that we cannot afford to lose. What is it with these recruits? What I hate about all of this is that it seems as though we have slid into being a second rate football program. Recruiting and all. There just seems to be such a gap between us and other top SEC schools. We are getting so pumped about getting a 3* commitment today, which is good, but bama and Florida are reeling in top notch players left and right. Boy are we scraping the bottom of the barrel. It is mind boggling to me. I sure hope we finish strong because we definately are going to need it. With our lack of depth and talent, realistically, we will not be a contender until 2012. I know it sucks but its just the reality. I sure hope Lane Kiffin gets a fair shake at turning this program around because it will take a five year plan to get back to being the old dominant UT. Worse come to worse at least he will leave the program in better shape than he received it if he gets fired.

We close strong. Have no fear. You can try breaking up your posts into paragraphs. Makes it easier to read (not bashing you, just giving some tips).

We ain't scraping the bottom. We're harvesting talent. Remember, the Rivals and Scout guys are not experts. Ed O, Lane, Lance, and Co. are experts. We have some of the best out there. Trust em.

Taylor (your favorite commitment) is *still* a 3-star prospect at this point, yet you seem disparaged that we picked up a 3-star prospect today.

If we accepted this commitment a month before NSD, you can bank on the fact that Dixon at least fits a projection of the type of player we wanted in the secondary and special teams.

This is just recruiting for you. Dixon and Taylor's recruiting isn't over yet, and Lane and Co. aren't finished either. There's still ground to be made up, promises to be made, and possibly (like last year) recruits we won't even hear about until AFTER signing day who are holding out sending in their LOI even beyond that.

Well he's listed at 6'1". Have you seen him in person? If not then I wouldn't say that. I doubt they would give him 3 extra inches

They showed him at the UA game next to Riley and he was at least 3 inches shorter. I'm assuming Riley isn't really 6'4 and listed at 6'1

Breathe...... breathe....... breathe...... We will be fine. and Ambles is all Vol!

Big Guy, that is exactly what I am talking about. "He will be hard to hang onto until NSD." Why? Why is it so hard to hang onto these top notch recruits? Uh... Simple answer. Because everybody wants them. Correct? Well if UT is in such need of LB's and there is a wide open opportunity for players to come in a start early for Monte Kiffin, why are these prospects threatening to sign elsewhere or better yet, not even interested at all. I heard ealrlier today that C.J. Moseley is "set to announce" and is likely headed to Alabama. Saban signed Nico Johnson, Tana Patrick, and one other top notch LB just in the 2009 class last year. Thats not including Hightower and McClain. I really thought that Monte Kiffin would have more draw on these prospects than he is having. But then again my expectations may be too high. I guess we will see soon enough.

Wait a minute, you guys are worried because he showed out in an all-star game and you guys are afraid this staff can't hold on to him?? They KNOW he is a priority and will keep him, IMO. If he leaves, it will completely shock me.

Haha, I love all the post about how our commits are all looking around when on TOS there is a new article almost every day of someone commited to another school showing interest in us. Will we get them all, of course not. Will everyoe else get all our playes, no. Its the whole recruiting game and it happens every year. This is JMO, but people that have followed recruiting under fulmer are used to his commitments not being as wanted..... Just like with our staff, our class will be great. Be thankful that everyone in the nation wants our kids.

I am less concerned about his performance attracting other suitors and more concerned about his comments regarding Notre Dame. The kid is a good student and Notre Dame could be very appealing. UT is no slouch when it comes to academic resources, and I'm sure the staff will remind him of that. They will obviously work to hang onto him....

It's all recruit talk.

bottom line, if we lose michael taylor, I'm probably not gonna log back on anymore until NSD. Just can't take it.

I don't understand the knee jerk reaction to these AA game performances. Luc doesn't have a stellar game and somehow he's a mediocre prospect, yet MT has a few great plays and he's all world now because he's UT commit. I mean, MT had a great week, but let's not get carried away. He had 3 tackles which could be attributed to being in the right place at the right time. (I know he won the skills comp too ;-) ) That's not saying he's not a great prospect, he could be, but let's hold off on the Al Wilson/Eric Berry comparisons. People are already demanding a 5th star and comparing him to the elite LB's in the country. "The next Eric Berry....?" Talk about over reacting to a decent week at the UAAAG. I want to keep this guy as much as the next guy, but if he wants to roll out, later. I only want 100% Vols (Jaq, Miller, Palardy, etc.) on this team.

IMO, he'll seriously consider whoever's willing to give him attention. When asked "why UT?" at the end of the UAAAG, he didn't really bend over backwards with his allegiance to UT. It wasn't all doom and gloom either, just not anything that makes me think his heart is 100% Vol, like it should be if you make a "commitment.". I'd hate to be these, "I'm still committed to X school, but willing to listen to other schools...," significant others. Talk about roller coaster relationships.

Its a little more than 3 tackles...I'm not crowning him like you say...but a week at the ua prac./game is a very good indication of the talent level of some recruits...

FWIW, I edited my OP a little.
