'10 FL LB Jeff Luc

I do agree with your first sentence and that bothers me a bit. I hope we don't drop him because of Hicks because Hicks could easily pull a switch on us at the end. Urban loves Hicks though so if he thinks Luc would scare Hicks off then I can understand why he is slow-playing Luc.

Luc and Hicks aren't projected at the same position. Hicks=OLB, Luc=MLB. If anyone were to scare Luc away it would be Jon Bostic who is currently the backup MLB and Spikes has been talking about how great he will be.

As for Luc possibly not being an EE I think it benefits Tennessee more than it hurts them. The big thing mentioned with getting Luc to UF is Strong and if Luc is an EE then he will be on campus and signed before Strong could be the next head coach anywhere. Not that I am saying Strong will leave but if Luc isn't an EE then he can wait to see if Strong stays at UF for sure.

I think Luc not being an EE could help Florida as well because it will clear up our LB recruiting situation. I feel very confident that Luc will be a Gator if we pursue him hard enough and the only way we wouldn't is if our LB recruiting board is full. I think we only want to take 3 LB's at the most and there are a few more that are higher on our board than Luc. It would also eliminate any doubt about Strong leaving. Right now Strong may hurt us as much as he helps us because coaches like Fisher and Kiffin are saying he is 100% gone at the end of the year. That could cause Luc to lose interest in us. If Strong is back for the 2010 season then we will know for sure by Jan so the "Strong won't be there" angle could go away by then.

What about the "angle" of your players waving guns around and getting arrested? I have a feeling that "angle" will play into this a lot more than Charlie Strong.

He's interviewed and had some chances. Bud Foster's still toting a lunch pail around Blacksburg.

Some guys just aren't cut out to be CEOs.

His wife may have more to do with him not landing a higher profile D-1 job right now than we may ever know. It's really unforunate too, because he is a very talented coach.

I don't think it's had nearly the impact that he suggests it has.

Winning is priority 1. If ADs and donors felt he could hoist trophies, they'd overlook an interracial marriage (assuming it bothered them to begin with).

That is true, but it's still considered taboo by a lot of people in the south. I also think he has unrealistic expectations as well for the first gig he wants to land. Your not going to get a Florida type job just being a defensive coordinator for the most part. You need something on your resume besides that.

you can get the OU job with it

Charlie will get a job. It's just not going to be at a power program.

Maybe Ron Guenther will look to Gainesville again, and hire Strong to replace the Zooker.

They really hadn't won much prior to Stoops getting out there at the time, so you can't really compare it. The way Strong makes it seem is that unless the program is of the caliber of Florida, the he isn't going anywhere. That's the way he makes it seem anyways.

I think that bothers Strong more than it bothers any AD. ADs do not care.

Would be a mistake to go to Illinois, IMO. It's a graveyard for coaches, and as much distaste I have for the Gators, I don't want people to fail who have talent. Strong would be better off suited to go to WVU, IMO.

Yep...it's an excuse to cushion the reality that he's not as desirable as he wants to think he is.

There might be an AD or two out there who, behind closed doors, are intolerant toward interracial marriage. But, the majority of ADs are concerned about one thing - and it ain't the color of the coach's wife.

I think Maryland would be a good gig for Strong.

Who knows how it'll shake out...but, he'll get his chance to be a head coach.

Maryland is one of the forgotten sons right now. I think Rutgers becoming more relevant has hurt them somewhat in that area with recruiting. Not necessarily in the state of Maryland, but in the Northeast itself.

What about Virginia? I don't necessarily want to recruit against him in VA though.

Virginia isn't somewhere we traditionally recruit much, so it wouldn't bother me. It would hurt us in recruiting Florida somewhat, and the Carolina's, but I think that it would still be a non-factor for the most part because we are going to pull who we need because of the SEC ties.

I think Virginia's a good job too. Though, Groh may be saving his arse, like he did in '06.

I think Maryland's the better gig, just because the Atlantic Division looks easier than the Coastal. He could get to Maryland and contend for a conference championship. At UVA, he's got to compete with Beamer, Davis, Johnson and Shannon.

And, I only mentioned Illinois because he has connections up in that area...so, it may be attractive to him. Think his son's still in college up that way.

Ahh, the 'ol he would only go choose UT over UF because we didnt REALLY want him angle. Havent heard that one before. I think UF definately wants Luc and I think that UT is just out-recruiting UF for Luc right now. He loves the idea of playing for Monte Kiffin.

I think they want Jordan Hicks more, IMO.
