Comments like this always make me laugh... In any event, I won't take the bait.

Back to Luc - I've read through the thread, but can someone summarize what the speculation on him is up to this point? I know there's debate about him being a UT lean. But, is this purely recruiting savvy by our boys in orange, or because he's apparently dropped some appeal? Is it lack of upside because of his current build, or a particular performance that caused him to drop a star?

Just curious as to whether or not there has been anything definitive on this, or if everyone is just postulating.

There is an article on rivals that came out today from Jamie Newberg...the title is Luc to leave the state?

"I have to admit I could have been dead wrong on Luc. For the longest time I thought he wouldn't leave the Sunshine State. Now it appears the nation's No. 2 linebacker prospect could be headed to the University of Tennessee."...per rivals.

In the end Newberg says it's a toss up....

"I have to admit I could have been dead wrong on Luc. For the longest time I thought he wouldn't leave the Sunshine State. Now it appears the nation's No. 2 linebacker prospect could be headed to the University of Tennessee.

First it seemed as though Luc favored Florida State, then it was Florida. Regardless, it appeared he would likely sign with either the Seminoles or Gators. The Vols, meanwhile, hung in there and did what they do well - show patience and recruit hard.

It started over the summer, when Luc camped at Tennessee and immediately hit it off with defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. Tennessee running backs coach Eddie Gran, who recruits south Florida for the Vols, basically handed Luc off to Kiffin. Luc stayed in contact with Kiffin and visited Tennessee for an official visit earlier this month (Oct. 2).

Did that official visit cement it for the Volunteers? Some say it has. Others believe there are three other teams - Florida, Florida State and USC - still in the mix. Luc may visit USC this weekend for an official visit. If that happens, I wouldn't exactly rule out the Trojans. Meanwhile, you also have Florida State hanging around hoping Luc will hold out until the Seminoles rectify things in Tallahassee.

Then there is a faction out there that swears Luc is staying in state and will sign with Florida for the same reasons he favors Tennessee: his relationship with the defensive coordinator - Charlie Strong - is solid.

What's Luc saying? Nothing. And that is why this one has been so intriguing, because Luc has never divulged much, if anything, in regards to recruiting and his school favorites.

The bottom line: Luc has given off good vibes to both the Vols and Gators. What will he do in the end? It's too close to call, but Tennessee just may be in position to steal another recruit from the Gators."

From Jamie Newberg of Rivals.com

Newberg is one of the more reliable guys over at rivals imo. If he says TN is in a good spot I have no reason to think otherwise.

No, he says he's not close to a UT committment, but that's in the article from the 16th from a Gator site.

In today's article he says...

“I have been to Tennessee already and I had a great time,” said Jeff Luc. “I really like their plan for the future at Tennessee. If you didn’t know better you would think the staff there has been together forever. I like the coaches there a lot and everything was real nice.”

We're in good shape.

Thanks for the info, everyone. I just know there's been lots of speculation on why he dropped in ratings, that having something to do with his recruitment being up in the air now, etc... I didn't know if there was a consensus out there about it being our staff working, or other schools cooling on him. Hard to tell, I suppose. . .

I can say our staff definitely isn't cooling on him. Too much has been made over losing his five star. Most coaches evaluate kids themselves.

That is 100% false. He has fallen because he hasn't been impressive this year but the staff will recruit him and stay on him. The staff would certainly take Hicks and Jones over Luc though--without question--and that would finish the LB class.
