I believe that this race is a lot closer than anyone thinks. I don't even know if JS is even leaning one way or another right now. He said himself he may not know all the way up until he decides.

So heres the question;

Who would you rather have? The QB that is more highly sought after who might decommit on you later or the less highly touted QB who is more likely to stay committed to you. (with the understanding you cant have both.) :)

My fear is that Scroggins DOES commit to UT, Rettig goes elsewhere and JS decommits in Nov/Dec leaving us in the lerch. (i.e. Chris Simms)

What coach will have the most involvement in developing a QB at Tennessee? Will it be Lane Kiffin, Jim Chaney or Reaves?

I would be interested to know what some of the guys that these coaches worked with in the past looked like coming out of High School, like Drew Brees.

Scroggins wont decommit. If he chooses us over his lifetime favorite school who happens to be one of the major powers of college football then I doubt he goes elsewhere. Plus, qbs don't hardly ever decommit anyways. and if your thinking he recommits to USC then why wouldn't he just commit there in the first place. What would he see in the fall that would leave him to believe he made the wrong choice. He lives near their campus and grew up going to their games. Its not like he hasn't taken a visit there. And if he comes here (big word being if) then CLK will continue to talk with him and bring him to the stadium at least one more time. So I really don't think thats logical to think the recommits.

Here's a thought. If Scroggins commits to UT, then Rettig is probably going to get an offer from USC, which I assume he couldn't pass up. I don't think Scroggins would de-commit from UT at this point, unless he changes his mind and goes to UF, which I don't see happening. The reason I say this, I can't see USC taking him and signing two QBs in this class if Rettig has committed, and I don't see Scroggins de-committing for anyone else but USC.

Not trying to undermine your source but our coaches seem to think they'll get everyone they go after hard. Maybe they know something. Idk. but hopefully we'll land him and everyone will be happy.

If he commits to UT, its going to take a LOT of work to hold his commitment IMO.

And in reply to your question about what he could see in the fall that would make him question his decision..it could be lots of things. If UT struggles offensively, gets pounded by its rivals, media continues to bash the program/Kiffin etc that could be enough to make him question his decision. And lets just say that USC (or UF although I dont think they are really a factor at this point) go on to have great season. (BCS bowl, Conferance Champs, NATIONAL CHAMPS what have you) These kids are fickle. Im just saying...committing to UT, then having to endure a great season from the nearby school, all the fans/friends in your ear....it will be a test for sure.

We lost a 4 star qb from Cali last year to Stanford, because of a**hole fans booing our team. So while I like your logic, don't say it can't happen. I saw things and heard things at the games that made me ashamed at times.

Dude, there have not been many qbs at all that have recommited. Especially your big time "pro style" ones. If you don't have confidence our offense will be better than last year then you don't need to worry about getting a qb cause what would it matter. Crompton isn't a 3 year old girl. He's a college qb many people wanted coming out of high school. I wanted his head last year, but under a system that works, we've all seen mediocre qbs throw up good numbers and I'm not just talking your spread qbs either. If he commits here, he's staying. And if he commits here as someone previously said, USC will offer Rettig, he will accept and USC wont take two qbs. so then its us and FL. No one on this site thinks that has a remote of a chance of happening.

I realize we were bad last year but if you don't see improvement at all why should this qb thing concern you. Even if we brought in a great qb and our staff didn't put them in a system that even somewhat worked (Clausens system didn't work at all) you think they would be great, even them being good is a stretch.

Nunes leaving wasn't because of fans booing. He left to stay closer to home. Well maybe that and the fact Clausen couldn't coach in the SEC for anyone.

My prediction is that Tennessee will be pursuing a quarterback for the 2010 class very hard come January. I have no idea who, but we will be after a quarterback during that time.

Doesn't matter if Scroggins is committed here at some time or if Retting is committed here at some time or if both are committed here at some time.

The only caveat to my statement is if both of those are the top 2 kids out there in Janaury which is highly unlikely. Doubt either are at top and I think our staff will pursue whoever is at top very hard.

I think 1-20 of quarterbacks will be in for some big time shuffling as 2009 season plays out. Kids will emerge that currently are not in anyone's picture. Several of the currently top players likely to slide south. Class is too weak to not shuffle.

Frankly, I'll be surprised if we have more than one QB committed headed into January. Makes sales pitch easier to not have two.

No it was because fat arse Fulmer getting out coached again. Our team deserved to be booed last year. Any year in which we dont make a bowl or dont show up for our biggest rivals is horrible. If the kid didn't like the booing then he doesn't need to be here, we dont need thin skinned QB's.

regardless of what you think about the season. he lost a significant amount of interest because of drunk, uneducated fans feeling the need to voice their opinion at every opportunity available. now let it go

Trovon Reed? I thought he was an Auburn lock? Isn't he related to Seastrunk?

They are cousins. They are trying to go to same school. He likes Auburn. He grew up a Texas fan and is friends with Connor Wood. So he wanted to go to Texas but they stopped calling him cuz they had a big time WR recruit who recently decommitted. They are calling him again now. He also has said he likes us and Oregon. LSU is in it of course do to location. But he does not seem to be found of them or against them. I predict Texas or wherever Seastrunk goes. JMO

In terms of academics the couple of sites i looked at rankings wise had

USC at 29
Florida at 49
and UT at around 104 :/

Although i think thats the university as a whole no idea how people fair in what he wants to major in.

I completely agree with this. And I think we will see a marked improvement in Crompton this year. I thought last year he just looked like he did not know how to read his progression. So I do think in a simpler system he could be good as long as he doesn't bounce passes again this year.

This article completely contradicts what you say:
Scout.com: B.J.?s Bolt Jolts Vols
There are two camps on Nunes. Either he decommitted because he wanted to be closer to home, which is what he said and any class act would say. Or he decommitted do to bad behavior from a usually classy fan base. People at the game did see that he was visibly taken aback due to the booing.

Well when you have two losing seasons out of the last four years you tend to become a drunk. Following UT the last couple of years has almost caused me to have a heart attack and all Fulmer would say is we will have to look at the tape and get better. What a joke he was for a coach. I've said my peace, man that feels better.

I agree with being out coached. The fact that you have a problem with Fulmer, or like to boo our own team (that is made up of unpaid student athletes), must mean you are a typical Alabama fan in disguise.

You know why birds fly upside down over Tuscaloosa?

There is anything worth sh*tting on down there.:eek:lol:
