How are you interpreting depth?

Is he looking for a school that has no depth so he can maybe play right away?

or

Is he looking for a school that has depth already so he can sit, learn, mature and get stronger for a few years before having to play??

I haven't watched interview and don't intend. Hard to buy into thigs kdis say. Just wondering if he spoke to what he meant by depth?

+1

If I was Rettig I would commit now. Assuming he likes it here. Make Scroggins think twice about coming. And make with the talent that is likely to be here in two years he would be in a good spot.

He might surprise us all and commit before Jesse makes his announcement, but I don't really see it. Rettig knows regardless of which school Scroggins chooses, he can go to the other. However, if Rettig really wants to go to UT more than USC, he could pull the trigger first. Although, my guess is, he would love to get a USC offer and stay in state, but Jesse will have to go somewhere else for that to happen.

Except Rettig (as has been reported/rumored) wants USC to offer him, so if JS commits to UT, USC could offer Rettig.

Rettig seems like a straight forward guy, you never know. But unlike Scroggins I tend to take what he says at face value. I truly believe he was going to commit to BC. I truly believe he is a loyalty guy and values the team that wants him most. I also believe that since USC is waiting clearly but Scroggins far above him he may want to come here more. The only thing that would change my thoughts is if he is a surfer.:)

One thing I am as sure of as you can be is once he commits he is committed no matter who offers later.

Scroggins I am not as sure of if he commits to us. I think he is going to be thinking about this until signing day.

all three points are valid IMO. i think he is a loyalty guy, but im not so sure he will commit to BC if JS goes to USC. it all depends on how much love we show him by his senior season i think. we have to out do BC if we lose JS and we should start now if we havent, even if the coaches think that we are going to get JS.

once he commits, he is not going anywhere, unlike JS, who is going to be a question mark until NSD.

and Retting could decommit and commit to USC. Happens all the time. There will be more decommits this time around than ever in the recruiting process

The qb recruiting seems like a giant cluster **** this year... says something about the qb class.

typically QB recruits dont decommit. but this is a special case. its not too often that the race is so close and drug out so long. i still want him as my #1 but if we get his commit July 25th it will be tough to keep a hold of him until NSD. if we get CR then i think we are safe and can go find a #2 QB and get the recruiting into full swing.

This may have been mentioned before (off-topic a bit, sorry), but how big a role does Casey Clausen's involvement with Rettig play? Rettig has to be asking Casey about his time at UT, what it's like to play here, go to school here, etc... I think Casey loved his time, the only question mark would be how he feels about Fulmer being let go. I just wonder if that will be a big or a non factor.

EDIT: I see now that there are comments on this in Rettig's thread and a thread about the interview Casey did - my apologies. Carry on! :hi:

Also, for what it's worth, Scroggins does strike me as a guy who will be back and forth all the way to February, regardless of what the 7/25 decision is.

as the recruiting process has gotten earlier and earlier the decommitments have been increasing from year to year. I expect the biggest list of decommitments to occur this year. and wouldn't surprise me to see it happen in QB ranks more than ever. This is weakest class in 20 years and the rankings will shuffle dramatically in the fall I believe.

Already talk that Retting, currently not ranked by Rivals, could end up a 4 star which puts in in top 12..

Good luck to you guys in getting Scroggins. I actually hope you guys get him over uscw. Brings more fun to the rivalry imo when both teams have top 10 teams every year. That said, i think your chances are about 20%. He's the #1 qb outta hs this year, and after the usc camp last month he knows it. So qb depth will not come into play for him.

I cant wait till we own you again like we did for fifty so years. Your little ten year run isnt going to last.

While I think USC has the lead, it is close. I believe it is more like UT - 45%, USC - 55%, maybe even closer than that as of late.
Not trying to be mean, but I believe Florida's chances are 0%. I don't think you guys have a snowballs chance at landing him.

Unless you consider that USC signed Barkley last year who was the #1 QB last year adn will also have a year in the system by the time Scroggins gets there. He will have to sit on the bench for a little while.

:lolabove: Yes, our chances are less than 0%. 'Not trying to be mean'

I think not landing Marlon Brown may have hurt you guys in landing a big time qb this year. Nuke is good, but not sure about him being a #1 wr for 2-3 years. Need to show the qb he will have some elite wrs to throw to for the next few years. And you guys don't seem to be the fav for any of the top wrs this year either.... I remember one of Jesse's quotes from UF camp was he couldn't believe how good all of our receivers were at creating space.
Who are you guys high on, confidence wise, in terms of top wrs to commit?

Seriously, I wasn't. I just think UF is a distant 3rd and is pretty much out of the race with Scroggins.

ambles and milton

milton is likely to commit the day before Scroggins. well, thats what we hope, but there is a fairly high chance. he is bringing his mom to campus with him this time, and its the 24th.

Dead on 1Orange.

If Scroggins isn't able to beat out Barkley in 2010, then he can likely kiss any chance of playing QB goodbye. SC will continue to bring in hotshot QBs and they are fairly likely to find one in the next couple of years that will move ahead of a Scroggins since he won't be progressing like a starter.

I don't think anyone can really say with certainty which QB is better between Scroggins and Rettig. Just look at how many QBs in the NFL were not considered top prospects in HS. Let's just get one of these two guys and coach them up.
