Rivals.com Football Recruiting - National Notes: Forde's talent stands out

Lakewood coach Thadd MacNeal said Monday it's "getting [to be] crunch time for both Jesse and Dion." Scroggins said he will announce his decision near the end of the month at the EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp, and Bailey could also announce in that same time frame.

He's narrowed his focus on three schools – USC, Florida and Tennessee. Scroggins knows the attention from three of the nation's top programs is only going to build the anticipation, but he said he's not going to be rushed into a quick decision.

"The rumors are like critics," Scroggins said. "They are never going to go away and everyone is going to continue to speculate. My goal is to take the next couple of weeks and work towards deciding what is the best school for me."

So who is ready to apologize to me when Scroggins becomes a Vol and several studs follow in dramatic fashion on ESPN? For the last time, Jessee Scroggins is a UT Vol.

I will come on here and publicly apologize to you when JS commits, if YOU agree to never post on this site ever again if he doesnt. Do we have a deal?

Good stuff. I am excited now. The Scroggins thing doesn't bother me a bit.

Ya, we (fans) have a tendency to fall in love with a particular kid, when in reality there are no guarantees. We won't live and die because of Scroggins, or any other one recruit. It sucks that we likely won't get him, but I am confident we can get decent QB play out of the guys the staff brings in and coaches, whoever they end up being.

Think of it in this manner? Scroggins said he's not afraid of competition right? Staff told him we were taking 2 QB's in this class right? They may be sending the signal, well here's your competition (Rettig) and he's the 2nd QB we are taking. You can go to USC and face Barkley or come to UT and face Rettig for the job. Kinda like forcing his hand all the while playing up to him also.

Agree...if JS isnt scared of Barkley...then why would he be worried about Rettig?

Your random posts about him being a Vol are nothing more than a futal attempt to ignore the fact that most of the people who are following him believe he will go to USC. Stop trying to make yourself feel better about the situation, because you are making yourself look bad with nothing to back up your personal assertions. If it's a personal opinion, so be it, but your acting like you know the situation and it's pretty obvious to me and other's here that you don't. At least some people on here use some logical arguments that may or may not be true, but you have offered nothing other than for us to sit back and trust you that he will be a Vol.

"Tennessee just offered this morning," Rettig said. "I was pretty excited because I loved my time at their camp and the SEC is big time football. The timing is crazy because I was actually thinking about committing to Boston College today and then I got an email from one of the coaches to call coach (Lane) Kiffin and when I did, he told me they were offering.

I hope this isn't a secondary violation. :)

If Scroggins goes to USC, IMO it would be dumb. He would have to probably sit, because if Aaron Corp, which i think is a redshirt freshman, has a good year or 2, then Matt Barkley would probably redshirt, and be in waiting, then I can't see Scroggins wanting to wait nearly 3 years just to get a chance to start. And that's not to mention if M(B)itch Mustain amounts to anything.

If Scroggins goes to Florida, IMO that too would be dumb. Florida has not had a history of putting out quarterbacks in the NFL. Unless Scroggins wants to be the Bachelor or a college football analyst in a few years that is what would happen. Plus, every qb that has come out of the spread offense in college has not made a good transition into the NFL so far (See Alex Smith, Vince Young).

If Scroggins comes to UT, it would be the best choice. He would probably be given the keys to program on day 1, He would have great resources such as Chaney, and Peyton Manning (cause I think Peyton has helped many UT qbs over the past years) to name a few. He would have the backing of UT fans and be able to cement a legacy at UT (his moms home state) like Peyton did a decade ago. Plus BB and JS could make a great 1 2 punch for several years.

So Jesse, If you read the Volnation boards, we want you more than anything else, we are willing to watch you grow as a football player and a man. Come join us in our journey back on top of the SEC and College football.

If Rettig accepts and then Scroggins follows, it will skyrocket his popularity much more so with Vols fans than had he commited before Rettig. There's just something about that hunger for competition- even if its not Barkley, Corp, etc.

Going to feel real bad for Jesse when/if he goes to USC and he never really starts. Just because he's going to redshirt and wait for Barkley to leave doesn't mean he's guaranteed the starting spot when he's gone. More than likely USC will have brought in a QB in the next couple of classes that is quite a bit better.
