I'm just not sure that a "high profile" QB is that vital. UT got B Brown, Nuke, Green, Teague, and Oku after getting no QB this year AND with all the negative banter about UT's current QB's.

I'm not suggesting it wouldn't help... Just that it isn't the death sentence most here seem to be making it.

I agree with you on that. Having a quality QB on board certainly doesn't hurt, however.

And if Crompton starts tearing it up then the whole "high profile QB" thing loses a lot of air. Because as horrible as he was last year... if he shows a great deal of improvement Kiffin and Co. will look very, very good. Which means we might wind up getting a good QB anyway and getting skill positions will not be difficult at all.

IF Crompton makes strides this year it will help BUT getting a high profile quaterback now is big because kids that have us on their list will start dropping and then when we get one it is 2 late then they have moved on.

Not trying to pick on the new guy but that's a huge overstatement. I think one analyst said this was the weakest QB class in about 20 years. In a typical year, UT might not even be recruiting Scroggins or else would have already had him since USC would have taken someone else.

Getting one of the biggest fish out of a very small pond isn't likely to get you a trophy.

I think Scroggins is good enough to play at either place... I'm just saying the weakness of this class has forced CLK and company to try to pluck a QB right out from under Carroll's front porch... a player Carroll wouldn't have offered in either of the past two classes. I'm not trying to disparage JS in any way. He might become great at either place... but both schools will try to recruit over him next year.

In a normal year, UT would be recruiting equal or better QB's within an 800 mile radius.

But Kiffin's future does not depend on getting a QB in this year's class. It would be ideal but getting at least one high caliber "big" WR and 6-8 good OL's is far more important... in fact, you could probably drop the WR part. UT MUST GET OL's. Everything else will follow on from there.
no worries, i disagree tho. we are going to have to compete with BCS Schools that are going after top QB's year in and year out if we want to be able to compete with BCS schools in BCS bowl games. Not to mention that the type of offense Kiffin runs will be similar to what PC runs at USC and they will likely go after the same QB's . Also LK has only coached in Cali and has a lot of ties there with Cali schools, despite the fact that PC gave him the responsibility of recruiting nationally.

Also regardless of the fact that it is a down year for QB's recruiting doesnt change the fact that we are very thin at QB and need a QB! So IMHO if we dont land a QB soon, like Orgeron had a hard time with at Ole Miss, it will be his downfall. Plan B, Plan C or Plan D or Juco.....which one works best for you...

all this will be null a void if we sign Scroggins soon tho.... i am not saying the sky is falling the sky is falling.... I am just a little stressed about the QB situation and I think we put our selves 2 years behind is we dont secure a top QB for the 2010 class! in case any one forgot we didnt sign a QB lin the 09 class, if all we end up with is a JUCO for 10 class (that aint even a done deal yet) thats all we end up is a patch job to cover up losing BJ.

Somebody made a good point about Bates at USC earlier..he is a big pull for any QB but how long does he stay??? He is likely back to NFL next yr. The only reason he isn't now is cuz he got let go after all the good jobs were open. He would actually be at TN as OC if he knew Shanahan was getting fired.

back to Scroggins...him not announcing with Bailey imo = vols. Even if he chooses USC, CLK is going to recruit him until NSD because he feels he can get him.. u can count on them to push and push for him to use an free official visit this season to come to the GA game.

How will the forum react if he visits tennessee and not Florida. I know ppl think Fl is not in it but IMO it would be huge for him to just come here and not FL. Hell he lives 20 mins and 10 seconds form USC but prob no need to go there again.
Me i will be stoked if he comes again

Unless he postpones his announcement that he says he is doing the 25th, there is no time for a visit.

He leaves Sunday for teh Elite 11 QB camp that runs from the 20th to the 23rd. Gives him a day to get back home to announce.

Don't think anymore visits are forth coming at this point

link? I don't see that anywhere from Hubbs.

he talked to his Dad about 3 days ago and his dad mentioned that but it wasn't in a story Brent did. Just a small post he put up..

since then, the visit stuff has kidn of shuffled away unless Scroggins delays his announcement again. He will be at elite 11 camp 20-23 and is supposed to announce the 25th. Not ime to go on visits

I would like to make my commitment next week. But I want to check out Tennessee and Florida again before I make my choice. I have to talk to my dad about it. Right now I don't know exactly how it is going to work out.

Rivals

I know it's buried a couple pages back, but I'm posting it again.

How could Jesse take another visit here if he gets home 2morrow... then gets ready and leaves for the EA camp Sunday... And plans to announce while at the camp... that doesnt leave anytime for a visit before the announcement.....

I think Jesse may be receiving pressure from somewhere to go to Tennessee because if he was really wanting to go to USC he would have committed already,I''m just saying that there may be someone in his ear wanting him to go to Tennessee.

Also,It could be that he really wants to come to Tennessee, but he doesn't want to let his family down.In that case he may be trying to make his family realize that Tennessee is the best place for him,and bringing them with him on another visit could do just that.

Why does everyone play Fla. off in this? If they wasn't a player why would he want to see them again. To me they seem to be a player in this. just asking!

Why would he go all the way across the country to sit on the bench when he could do that at USC? Why would he want to play for a coach who only coaches the spread option offense and it is known to be his specialty? Why would you want to play for Urban Meyer when you have Pete Carroll 20 min away?

At least UT has an open depth chart.
