IMO, here is the bottom line. His Dad can convince him to go to USC where he can drive 30 minutes and watch him ride the pine for 3 or 4 years, or he can allow his son to go to UT, and watch him play every Saturday on primetime.

Short and to the point, but I agree.

Dad needs to take an unbiased look at this post....

It doesn't sound good that his coach is going to be there.:ermm:

Where is this coming from about his coach? I've read every Scroggins article since February and I haven't seen one thing to suggest he isn't going to help Jesse make the best decision for him regardless of where it is.

It comes from a perceived notion that Coach is not 'in our corner'.

i just dont like the coaches being directly involved too much, period. its a iffy subject. whats to say the coach isnt trying to make a name for themselves? is it really in the best interest of the player? likewise, he probably knows more about football than his dad and has some connections here and there. so it has its pros and cons IMO. i dont feel comfortable because hes a coach 30 minutes from USC. without meeting the guy, i just have a gut feeling he will be biased towards USC and it could reflect on JS choice

I just read it today. I think it was from the recent rivals article, but I can't remember. He said something about his parents or dad, and coach would take him to dinner the night before his announcement and break down the pros and cons. Don't hold me to this exactly, but it was something like that.

he is NOT a family member, therefore his input should be taken at a distance...only as mere advice, not anything more than mild influence.

I just think that this is something he should discuss with his parents. The coach might be a USC guy and if he is he would try to make it sound like USC is the best place to go.And for Jesse's sake I would hope he gets the right information to make the right decision for him, whether that be at Tennessee,USC,or Florida.

the fathers bias is understandable. he wants to be able to see his son as much as possible. i think in the end, since hes the dad, he will respect whatever decision is made. a coach, however, is not bound to such morals or family obligations...

Exactly,if they are sitting down at dinner and after weighing all the pros and cons Jesse says"I want to go to Tennessee"his dad will support him but his coach might not be so easy to convince.

You misunderstood what I was saying

I don't think it's fair at all to automatically assume that his coach is going to have some kind of bias and lead him to one school over another. We don't know him or the kind of guy he is. Most leaders of young men would advise what is in the best interest of the kid. I would assume this is the case until I had something to indicate otherwise.

If he has a good relationship with his coach, I can't see why he wouldn't be involved.

But, I agree with the general sentiment. Jesse is going to USC.

I don't think it's his best choice for his professional career, but UF would be career suicide. I still can't imagine him making that choice.

The best thing that could happen for him would be for CUM to leave and for UF to hire someone who runs a pro-style offense. While I think there's decent chance that CUM will leave (in other words, I think ND will tank again either this year or next and Urban will get his "dream" job), I don't see UF hiring a pro-style coach.

I'd love to see him in Orange and White, but I can wish him well at USC. He may never start, but it's not a stupid choice.

dang it sab, why do you have to be level headed and reasonable??? ha. *sigh* youre right. it doesnt make me feel any more comfortable though. we dont know him, youre right, but that could also mean that he is USC biased too...we wont know until july 25 i suppose...

Sab, I found it. It was a post you made on this thread. Here is the link, post#4443.

Here is the quote you pasted.

"I really don't know what it's going to come down to," Scroggins offered. "I am going to do my pros and cons for all three and then my parent and my coach are taking me to dinner and asking me questions to help me decide what school is the best place for me."

"I haven't stopped talking to coaches," Scroggins said. "I talk to the school's once a week. I don't talk to them as much as I did, but all three schools are still recruiting me hard."

Dang you Sab making me think about things rationally,I come here to jump to conclusions not to be fair, but I know we shouldn't assume this guy is going to sway Jesse one way or another.

Dude, no offense, but do you really think I'm aware of what I post and what is contained therein? Go back and read my post again. I wasn't asking where it said his coach is going to help him with his decision. That happens with most every recruit FWIW.
