09 CA S Byron Moore - UT Commit

Gordon is behind Teague. Also Gordon is not the next big thing at CB. I think Coleman is going to pass him. Lanier will pass him too. His size and physicality is going to be good for our secondary. One guy that saw him play said I will be pleasantly surprised with what I see when he suits up for us. Said he'll be a force. Also Tino Thomas will pass Gordon after a year of coaching. He's a very good athlete at the CB spot. He just needs coaching.

No way Gordon is passed by all of these guys.

Gordon just has to progress. He showed positive and negative signs this season. He's a great athlete, but his coverage skills are very suspect.

I think ya'll will be pissed when you see the amount of playing time Gordon and Evans will see. I'm not saying i'm huge fans of them, but they'll be better than Lanier, and the freshmen. I'm thinking that since they've played significant time against the best competition then they should have the edge.

Without a doubt. It will be hard for the guys that have played significantly to get passed up on the depth chart. They might get passed up before the year is over with though. JMO.

With all due respect, coaches don't recruit players from junior colleges to sit the bench or gain experience. They recruit them for one reason and one reason ONLY to play!

There is no reason to take a JUCO kid if you think he can't immediately start or compete to start from day 1. Coaches do not want to invest the time or effort into someone who they feel may or may not ever be able to contribute given that they only have 2/3 years to play.

In layman's terms, it doesn't look good for Gordon and/or Evans.

JuCos with three to play are different than JuCos with two to play. I would not be surprised to see Lanier starting on the bench (although still getting snaps).

Juco players are recruited for depth as well, which is something we desperately need. Nick Lamiason was a good example of that. And don't count out Gordon, he plays with a ton of heart, and is still realitivly young.

You are correct. He MAY start the season on the bench but, if things go according to plans, he will not be there long. Had he been able to get into school this semester, then I wouldn't even entertain him sitting as a possibility.

JuCo's with 3 yrs to play are definitely preferred to those with 2 yrs to play but in the grand scheme of things there isn't much difference in terms of the expectations set for them.

He was a freshman...what did you expect? Eric Berry is the exception not the rule.

If we were recruiting for depth only, wouldn't we prefer to have depth that has the potential of being here for 5 yrs rather than 3?

When Lamaison was recruited, he was recruited on the premise that he would never be a contributor here.

I didin't say we were recruiting for depth purposes only, just that it's a part of the reason JUCO players can be of value.

Lamiason being told he was not going to be a contributor is an example of recruiting for depth only.

But enough with this Lamiason crap, back to Moore. I think Moore can be one of those JUCO guys that can come in and contribute immediately.

I'm not going to say that Gordon is the 'next big thing', but niether is Lanier. Izzy played one year against JuCo's, Gordon played against the SE freakin C.... No way Izzy starts the season opener over Gordon.

Now, I do agree with the previous poster in that Lanier may start later in the season. I wouldn't mind him coming in, making plays, and proving himself. Likewise, Gordon could easily find himself on the bench if he gives up big plays.

Lastly, I acknowledge Gordon is not the 'next big thing', but I do expect him to be better than he was last year, and that won't be too bad....

I'd take the guy that has started in a few sec games > any unproven freshmen prospects....

Just because you start doesn't mean you're good. He has a lot to prove. He's a young player but he didn't show much more than toughness last year. He got killed at the end of the Florida game. They picked on him 3rd down after 3rd down. Teague will beat Gordon out anyways so he'll be battling for nickel role.

I wouldn't expect too much out of a freshman. Last year UT had no choice but to play so many. Moore definitely will be a starter either at safety or at corner. A lot depends on if Jackson and Brewer situations. Lanier might have qualifying issues so he has to get on campus first. Coleman might find time in the two deep being an EE, but I'd like to see him take some snaps in the orange and white game to see how well he plays. Art Evens is back and even tho he looked he whiffed on some of the best receivers in the sec.... we really don't know how much of that had to do with a horrible pass rush. Gordon and Teague have sec experience which will give them the nod over a couple of freshmen.

The CBs will look much better if the DLine can get pressure on the QB.

The guy in my avatar should help with that. I believe if JJ and BB are back in the fold and with some depth help at DT; that should help the CBs this year. Some of the QBs had a lifetime of pocket time. The South Carolina game comes to mind right off. We made Garcia look like Vick last year scrambling around and making plays. Makes me sick to think about that game.

Having a healthy Naz Oliver might help too. He looked good last spring before he got injured.

I agree. So many of us are guilty of overlooking his ability. I forget about him from time to time. If healthy he would have been on the field early and often. I can't wait until spring ball. It will be good to see football news again.

I was simply making an observation based on his performances. My observation is justified given the talent we brought in at the DB spots.

Interesting to note that Moore says he commited to Miami after his visit but changed his mind because he couldnt quit thinking about Tennessee, he also says the staff wants him at CB but if he needs to play S he will.
