09 CA S Byron Moore - UT Commit

I certainly don't have many posts to warrant respect, but my backyard was Narbonne High School (where Byron Moore played). He is a talent, no doubt. I SO HOPE he chooses Tennessee and succeeds. I do realize the salivation over secondary positions, but I don't THINK he will be a savior by any means. I know everyone wants to believe this, and AGAIN, I HOPE he can resolve our problems in the secondary, but don't put too much hope in this basket. He will be a tremendous assest regardless if chooses Tenn, no question. However, if for reasons (lame) he picks The U, don't fret... We have some good prospects! Go VOLS!

Waggner would be an elite nickel back in a true nickel against a slot receiver. I agree that he's mismatched on the outside against big strong guys...horrific tackler.

I disagree. Waggner will start at CB and he is not a bad tackler for a small DB. He made some good open field plays this season. He played really well for the most part.

He makes Deion Sanders look like Ray Lewis.

Waggner is a decent cover guy but he's a Godawful tackler.

I won't go as far as to say that Prentiss Waggner sucks, but he is not a good tackler by any stretch of the imagination, nor is he fast. Granted, he did return three interceptions for scores, but that was pretty much all he did. To say that he can start at corner and is not a bad tackler is from way out in left field, if you ask me.

With all this talk about PWs deficiencys in one area or another, I think it's ironic that in the two gutwrenching losses to LSU and UNC, he was responsible for a big time busted play in both. If he makes either play UT wins. A lot of folks here today have brought up the whiff on Jefferson at LSU, but nobody has brought up the fact he completely blew his coverage at the end of the first half against UNC, leaving his man wide open for a touchdown with time running down because TJ Yates was running for the sideline 40 yards from the endzone. That was a massive brain fart and it was all on him. A smart CB would never leave his man in that situation.

scramble drill is one of the hardest things for a DB to cover , no matter who you are. and Im not one for making excuses for Prewag

He still is slow as they come. That play wasn't on him in the UNC game the QB had around 7 or 8 seconds. I watched him pick up a fumble against Memphis and he looked like he had jet lag.

I agree with almost eveything that has been said but since he is a Vol and has never done anything to make our team look bad ( police etc) maybe we could lay off of him now and get back to Moore.

Just think it's kinda unfair to the guy considering he did choose to play for UT and he is one of our players.

I know it's a hard play to deal with, but that particular play was a no brainer because of the situation. If UNC had been on the 15 yrd line it might have made more sense, but it was 40 yards away with time running out. It was a horribly bad assessment of the situation. His total responsibility was to not under any circumstances let his man beat him deep. And he completely blew it. It wasn't the only time he did that this year either, it was just the most glaring. I am not a anti PW guy, but with his other weaknesses he cannot afford to play dumb also.

Dude I just watched this game again last night on Xbox live. I watched that play over and over. Yates was under heavy pressure and got away to the left running to the sideline, one of the underneath players was already closing on him, and he was headed out of bounds to stop the clock. PW left his man about 20-30 yrds deep, and took off for Yates when he saw him running to the left. As soon as he left his man the WR broke for the endzone where there was nobody deep to cover him. Yates saw it and immediately threw the ball. TD. It was on PW.

Since we are wanting to point a bad play out how about all of you go look at what he did to alshon Jeffrey in 1 on 1 coverage. Jeffrey did nothing until one catch in 4th where we were playing zone and Brewer missed a tackle. Waggner did a great job at corner for us when switched.

I said earlier that I am not a PW hater. I do think he is an asset to the team. He does seem to have a knack for making some good plays. But if we are just trading really good plays for really bad plays it ends up canceling out. Hopefully he can cut out the really bad plays. He will be hard pressed to keep a starting job if he doesn't.
