Some Telling Comments by Coach P

I suggest people actually watch the interview, RexVol's summary is not particularly accurate. VOL REPORT: Insight From Assistants - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

Ainge: "QB position is a question mark"

Ainge knows that he can feed into the negativity surrounding some fans around the program by blasting Bray. It allows him to be another lazy member of the sports media and sit back and blindly discuss an artificial controversy as opposed to doing any real research. Bray isn't perfect, but...

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

I am not arguing for the sake of argument, I just think this fanbase is way too concerned with winning the press conference when performance on the field is what counts. If you want to go back and say Monte met expectations, I dont think that is true. If you want to say players won't...

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

Sure, the UT brand may get a boost for a day or two with a good PR hire, but all that matters is performance on the field. If perception could carry a defense, Monte Kiffin would be king.

Because this program needs the best possible coach, not the best PR.

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

    A. I enjoyed that this convo didn't end with us just calling each other stupid. B. I responded to your post because you began by talking about the impact of this bowl game and 'equity with recuits". I just happen to disagree with you because I don't think that matters at all to the people...

    poor dooley

You don't base a decision on who to hire as a coordinator based on what it might do a recruits decision. Think about what percentage of recruits are real game changers for a program. Who on our roster now is so important that they should be able to pick a coordinator? Who in college football?

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

Who cares? The only thing that matters is which DC we can hire that will make our D the best. There is going to be stink on this program until we win games. If you would rather hire an inferior DC that would give us better publicity, I think you are wrong. * Again, I am not saying KS is...

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

My first post was that I don't understand the hype around KS. Just want to clarify that. The point that matters most for CDD is which hire makes the defense better next year. I think we can agree on that. If the people in charge think it is KS, that is who they should hire. To hire...

    poor dooley

I agree 100%. This board seems to think that Hart and CDD were basing their decision to hire KS on his ability to stop WVU in a bowl game. If he gets hired, it is because the people in charge think he will do the best job at the price they are willing to pay.

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

Exactly, it works both ways. If CDD thinks KS is the best coordinator he can get for on the field performance next year, he hires him because he needs wins. This fanbase should know better than anyone that playing a bunch of freshman doesn't work. So a PR hit on a bad bowl performance won't...

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

If KS will make the defense better than other available coaches, you still hire KS. You don't make long term decisions based on a coordinators 'equity with recruits' in the short term, that would just be a poor managerial decision. In the long term, the most important thing is getting in the...

    Update on Randy Shannon, DC

And again...if he comes out strong next year nobody will care about that either. I personally think you open up the checkbook and get the best DC possible, but if the staff thinks KS is the best they can get to improve the D next year, you don't let a bowl game force you into hiring someone...
