Update on Randy Shannon, DC

If KS will make the defense better than other available coaches, you still hire KS. You don't make long term decisions based on a coordinators 'equity with recruits' in the short term, that would just be a poor managerial decision.

In the long term, the most important thing is getting in the right people who will build the program the right way. If that means you lose a few 18 year old recruits, that is just an unfortunate reality.

But Dooley doesn't have a long term. This staff HAS to win next year. That is a fact. If you blow up this recruiting class a month before signing day, Dooley won't survive. Remember who hired Dooley...

Exactly, it works both ways.

If CDD thinks KS is the best coordinator he can get for on the field performance next year, he hires him because he needs wins. This fanbase should know better than anyone that playing a bunch of freshman doesn't work. So a PR hit on a bad bowl performance won't be the end of him.

But he's not some stellar defensive guru like you're making him out to be. Clemson has given up an average of 30 pts/game this season! IN THE ACC!

Dooley don't want Randy because he knows if anything happens..Randy will be the Coach in waiting.

My first post was that I don't understand the hype around KS. Just want to clarify that.

The point that matters most for CDD is which hire makes the defense better next year. I think we can agree on that.

If the people in charge think it is KS, that is who they should hire.

To hire someone else, when they think KS would do the best job, because of bad PR over a bowl game is silly. That is not how smart people make decisions.

If he doesn't get Shannon he will be the former coach at UT. I hope you are joking.

What I'm saying is Hart will already have a guy with head coaching experience...Dooley starts the season badly..Hart will more likely pull the plug and give it Randy.

Shannon has shown that he is not HC material, but he does have a great track record as DC.

Very good post.

The notion that the recruiting class will fall apart if KS is hired is crazy. He is one of the ELITE recruiters in college football and has been for decades!

Well in the what have you done for me lately world, what could he possibly tell the kids to swing their opinion of him? I mean he isn't leaving a great legacy at Clemson at this point.

Elite recruiting status and pixie dust should help him get over tonight's embarrasment by the end of the month.

70 points. Do me a favor and turn on national sports talk right now for just 10 minutes.

But if Dooley starts the season badly, the plug is getting pulled no matter who is hired.

Steele was probably straight up with his player at Clemson and let the cat out of the bag that he is coming to Knoxville before the game. This is going to play well into the recruiting theme for the year: results don't matter, character counts.

Who cares?

The only thing that matters is which DC we can hire that will make our D the best. There is going to be stink on this program until we win games.

If you would rather hire an inferior DC that would give us better publicity, I think you are wrong.

* Again, I am not saying KS is a savior or savant.

Steele won't cease being an elite recruiter. If we hire him, we'll grab some great talent. What I'm not so convinced about is whether we'll actually stop any of our opponents' offenses.

I get what you be sayin, but nothing gives me reason to think that Randy Shannon is an inferior DC.

Kind of sounds like another coach's profile. I would rather win next year than leave talent for the next guy.

* Add to that, I believe it will hurt this recruiting class.

Agree with you or not, no one can really say your posts are not interesting.:loco:

That's doesn't make sense.. If something happens, Dooley is gone so I'm guessing he probably wont be to worried about who's next..
