I personally dont see the appeal of KS, but if he is the best guy for what CDD is trying to do you still take him.
The stink of a bad bowl performance will last about 3 days. Seriously, look at the coaching positions being filled by people who lost bowl games.
If Steele comes out strong against NC State next year, nobody will care about this.
He didn't come out strong against NC State this year.
And again...if he comes out strong next year nobody will care about that either.
I personally think you open up the checkbook and get the best DC possible, but if the staff thinks KS is the best they can get to improve the D next year, you don't let a bowl game force you into hiring someone else.
Dooley has 1 year to prove himself. Fair or not, every recruit in America witnessed this score tonight. Dooley can't afford to give KS the time he needs to regrow his equity with recruits.
If KS will make the defense better than other available coaches, you still hire KS. You don't make long term decisions based on a coordinators 'equity with recruits' in the short term, that would just be a poor managerial decision.
In the long term, the most important thing is getting in the right people who will build the program the right way. If that means you lose a few 18 year old recruits, that is just an unfortunate reality.
