For every Coach K, Izzo, Boeheim, Donovan there are hundreds who are under-qualified, continue to lose, and are fired
One example does not make your point. It's as absurd as saying "stars dont matter" in recruiting by citing JJ Watt as a 2-star
Sometimes a gamble pays off, more often they...
And despite his "terrible" win/loss vs ranked...Barnes RPI by year is still routinely good
14-15: 42
13-14: 37
12-13: 102
11-12: 51
10-11: 11
09-10: 29
08-09: 41
07-08: 5
06-07: 25
etc. etc.
And the most recent are his "down" years, still cracking top 50
I totally get it, they want to gamble and somehow the coach turn into the next Pearl/Izzo/whoever. But you don't gamble with the type of guys we'd have to gamble with, that's like playing blackjack where "hit me" means they drop two cards at once instead of one
And not only did he make the tourney this year, he was the conference coach of the year last year. The reason people were disappointed was because expectations were so high this year, and he didn't meet them.
Heck I'd just like to have expectations get that high for us
It's not like that at all and thats a bad comparison
Texas & Tennessee are both powerhouse football programs, they have enough prestige where they don't have to hire leftovers of the other
Tennessee basketball would be equivalent to some lower level Big 10 football team, like Purdue...
People who are against Rick Barnes need to step back and take a look at the program
We're just coming off two coaches fired for NCAA violations and one leaving for a lateral move. We have a tremendous ways to go to even field a competitive roster this fall, and zero identity as a program...
I was rewatching the Iowa game and his improvement from Vandy to Iowa, with the time off to get healthy/rest, was crazy
I think last season we saw a sliver of Hurd's potential, very exciting
