The plan in the article gets around this, basically by making the Rose part of the plus-1 only every fourth year. It could stage its Big Ten-Pac 12 matchup every year and keep the TCUs and Boise States of the world away from Pasadena.
It looks like there's more and more support for a plus-1 system, and now it's even coming from some conference commissioners and ADs.
Dan Wetzel, anti-BCS crusader and exposer of bowl hypocrisy, has a summary on how a plus-1 could work:
Support grows for football Final Four - College...
Any coach that can bring excitement to Vandy is probably worth the money in their mind. All of their momentum may go unfulfilled in the next few years, but just thinking something positive might happen is still more than they're used to.
Historically speaking, getting Vandy to 6 wins is...
Went to Notre Dame in '05. The game was pretty awful, but the gameday atmosphere was phenominal.
I'm used to SEC stadiums where the locals heckle you (or worse)...within 20 minutes on Notre Dame's campus, we had been offered food and adult beverages from some random ND fans. And if that...
There is little to no correlation in the entire history of college football between the success of a program's head coach and whether or not he played ball there.
Good coaches win, bad coaches lose. If a good coach wins at his alma mater, it makes for a nice story...but it isn't (or...
I doubt they'd open up another series with us and LSU again. The rotating games that just finished up the back end of home-and-homes (UT-LSU, Bama-Florida, Auburn-Carolina, etc.) are probably done for a while.
Surely we'll move on to our scheduled Mississippi State home-and-home next year.
Yep...there's some wins to be had on that schedule if we stay healthy.
Dooley drew the short end of the stick with the conference schedule this past year. But swapping Arkansas for Mizzou next year is a bit of good luck.
Where did I say I think Dooley will get it done?
My eyes started to bleed halfway through your post... but if I understand you correctly, you believe luckiness could have something to do with Dooley's job evaluation. I hope Hart consults his Tarot cards and divining rods before making a...
Talent-wise, we should be better than Vandy and Kentucky.
If Mississippi St is our second West opponent, we might catch them with a new coach if the Mullen to Penn State rumors have any weight to them (and their OC might be joining Urban's staff anyway).
And although they've got a bit...
Wherever he lands will have hired a good coach and a good recruiter. He may not be head coach material just yet, but I'm not sure anyone could've won at that trainwreck Memphis program and its bumbling athletic department the past two years. I hope for his sake that isn't held against him.
Just a thought...if this is all contingent on Wilcox, Sirmon, and/or Thompson leaving, and we have the money on hand to buy Dooley out and bring in a new staff...why wouldn't they just pay whatever it takes to keep our current coaches from leaving in the first place? Unless they just left...
I'm also wondering if the boosters felt comfortable having Hamilton spend their money.
If they're impressed with Hart, they might be willing to open up their wallets a bit more.
