Conflicting rumors all over the place...(Kevin Sumlin)

I understand why some people may be skeptical of Sumlin, but there isn't any argument whatsoever that Dooley is actually a better coach.

Yep. I'm like you, I would be okay with the hire, but would still want to strike out going after all the big fish first.

Got a great idea. After having a recruiting class that never was (08) and a recruiting class that fell apart (09)... followed by two classes that started laying the foundation of talent needed to rebuild the program... while RIGHT in the middle of putting together a top 15 if not top 10 recruiting class.... let's blow that up by firing the coach to make it 4 coaches in 3 years.

What an incredibly good idea... I am sure it will work.

Excuse me sir, is that common sense you are using there? You stop that!!

Just a thought...if this is all contingent on Wilcox, Sirmon, and/or Thompson leaving, and we have the money on hand to buy Dooley out and bring in a new staff...why wouldn't they just pay whatever it takes to keep our current coaches from leaving in the first place? Unless they just left without allowing us to make a counteroffer, that is.

Yeah, because it is always a good idea to keep a lame duck coach who has lost his players

I'm not endorsing firing Dooley, but I'm not buying the "if Dooley's gone, the entire class is gone" argument. Hell, Dooley didn't let that happen when Kiffin and Crew left.

and I have another why not buy a ticket on the Titanic and keeping this staff in tack with giving them more money is insane.

I am not endorsing now either but if it is going to happen now is the time so the new coach would have time to keep the class together. The problem will be is any coach willing to leave his respective school and forgo the bowl game to get a head start here.

And if his incompetent ass can do it, there are more out there that can

If we fired Dooley tomorrow and hired a coach within two weeks, there would be plenty of time to get a good recruiting class if we hire a good recruiter. I mean, dear Lord, not like we have a top 3 class with 5-7 5* players on it.

Hopefully because we could do better?

but I have now heard that Sumlin has been contacted through informal means.

Could make sense if Wilcox is gone and Hart starts to see that the whole thing is about to implode. Going to be hard to bring new coordinators with a lame duck coach, so an entirely new staff might as well be the solution.

I don't buy into all the "definitely back" stuff just yet.

coordinators come and go at major programs all the time. most wont worry too much about Dooleys long term prospects at tn. If they are a position coach right now or at a smaller program they'll probably listen to any offer

I don't think he is talking about the players coming in, but more of a reflection of the current players at Tennessee.

A lot of rumors that Dooley has lost the team with the younger players.

If we can get the right coach, it would be the best idea.

If I were Dave Hart I would be on the phone to Gary Pattersons agent offering him 4-5 million a year, hell if it took 5.5 million I'd give it to him.

Sumlin IMO would be a bad hire.
