I would rather have a guy that cover as well. Lovingood is a lineman which is a liability in coverage. Long snappers must snap, protect, and cover. It's not just snapping. Tgats like saying qb's only throw. I would not count out a walkon as being our next snapper. We shall see.
What is your experience coach potato? The bottom line is you take a lesser talent, teach him the skill and he can do it. You can't do that with any other position. It's no different at the BCS level which is what they did for years.
Well he actually played in several so called college football cathedrals. Lovingood will likely never be a benefit in coverage. And you never know how these kids will perform while the band is playing. I would rather have a guy already there to learn the position and the skill.
Lol....ok. I have hands on experience with the subject matter. I see no point in giving long snappers scholarships until they are seniors. My son trains snappers at an academy in Orlando and says it is now the trend to give snappers scholarships. Don't be stupid with your attacks on me.
Long snapping is a learned skill not dependent on athletic ability with the exception of flexibility. It is an unglamorous position that most don't want to do. There are guys already on campus that could do it. The ratings for long snappers are silly. My son got in an NFL camp and was good...
I have two sons that we're starting long snappers at the FCS level. The ratings don't mean crap. You take a guy already there, buried on the depth chart, encourage him to learn the skill as his only means of getting on the field. It's important and the goal is to remain anonymous.
Charlie and his brother Al were legendary athletes in their own right and played at Howard a High. Had they come along twenty years later, they would have been recruited as well. Charlie is currently a custodian at Tennessee State. He wasn't in Reggie's life for a number of years.
