Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

TBA was sized to be larger than Rupp. When first conceived, we were selling out every game in Stokely (12,700 or 12,926 later on). They decided to go big. I believe that 18K would be a good size, but I do like the current configuration at TBA. Wonder what the seating would be if they sky boxed the south side as well?

18 and change I would guess?

You could skybox the entire upper level and probably drop it to 14k?

Didn't Dicky have TBA built that big just to be as big as Rupp? In fact wasn't it originally bigger than Rupp? That's what I always heard.

Which is true, is really funny considering Dickey in turn did absolutely nothing to make the basketball program better.

Yes, and UT had the fan base then to support a 20k arena, but the feeling was if we are going to build it that big, why not make it the biggest/best in the SEC. So they did. And, initially during the DeVoe years they averaged 19k a game, but he was let go and good ole Wade Houston took over and the program went down in attendance. At the same time the Lady Vols gained a large portion of that fan base with all of Pat's success.

That's what makes the whole thing strange. You build a big arena with the supposed intent to fill it with 20K+ Vol fans but then hamstring the basketball program with a hire like Wade Houston.

Not to mention the building itself is just plain ugly. It's not as important how it looks on the outside and after the renovation it looks nice inside, but man the outside is just an eyesore.

I thought somehow he had gotten doused in water. I don't think I've seen someone sweat through a blazer like that.

I had a friend that was on a trip with us and several others in Mexico many years ago. He had some hot peppers and it was hot one night out and we always insisted we had never and would ever see somebody sweat thru their shirt like he did that night. I hadn't talked to him in awhile, and my phone rang during that Pearl game. It was him formally passing the sweatiest person ever title after 20+ years of hearing that story rehashed.

I agree. They should have made it look more collegiate, like they did to Neyland with the brick facing.

Dickey was a money man. He built TBA to be the largest arena to attract other events such as concerts, Monster truck events and such. Another source of revenue. Remember the civic coliseum was where these events were typically held pre TBA. It simply wasn't large enough to attract big time names, events.

I know a lot of people want this thread to die, and the way we have played lately has given a lot of us hope that Martin just might work out after all (myself included), but, with the rumor that Petrino is expected to return to L'ville, is it really that far fetched that Pearl couldn't return to UT if things go south for Martin? I realize that they are 2 different cases, but it just might be the first crack in the wall of the belief that a coach can't go back. Thoughts?

Hamilton, like so many other things, miss handled the pearl situation and I for one would take pearl back in a heart regardless of NCAA show cause. We would be a top 25 team or better if pearl was coaching this team. And with Martin coaching we aren't going to go to the tournament on a consistent basis anyways.

Sad, but true.

Wow totally original post here.

I bet you thought we'd lose last night too.

No, we'd have the NCAA so far up our ass they would know what we were eating every day. They would find something and then cripple the program. Pearl screwed himself and UT. Let it go.

Have you seen what the NCAA has done to schools in trouble this year? They're a joke and I don't fear them the way some do.
