Da Reds thread

BP at Redsfest and it sounded like there was some productive discussions behind the scenes with Bob, Walt and BP. Hope so regardless of what happens. If he stays the 2 hole is covered and he has Skip to give him some needed rest to keep him fresh, providing they go get that RH bat. Pretty clear that Billy will be in CF on Day 1 unless they luck up with Choo, which isn't looking good after the Ellsbury deal (Boras client). Skip and Heisey (if retained) can sub in CF. Cabrera now with the Yanks as well, so the Yanks will probably go with a less expensive option at second.

Behind the scenes it sounds like Leake is getting serious with his stamina issues. Has gained 10 to 193 lbs. Wants to hit 200 and judge how he handles it. Working out with weights and getting in better condition while eating more. Remember getting skewered by the JPArencibia poster on here a couple of years ago for suggesting both he and Homer died out in the 6th/7th inning because their lower bodies were not strong enough along with their overall stamina to sustain. Homer fixed it over a year ago and now Mike is giving it a good shot. Funny how that works sometimes. lol. Wish Tubs Broxton and Cueto would get the message in the other direction - lose the pork and get in shape.

They're always chatting up how much cueto runs and works so hard, but it certainly doesn't look that way when he is on the field. Kind of got the impression that cueto was going to have to change up his motion and delivery and I hope that can produce the same results as a couple years ago. Really need him to be productive and stay off the dl.

I agree. You can't be the ace if you aren't on the mound every 5th day. He claims to be healthy now and wanting Price to clear him to start pitching in winter ball for a month. Not a bad idea since he has to be rusty.

Based on the comments today it appears CF is all Billy's and Choo is out of their league on his potential contract. Still think there is a trade coming for a RH bat.

Boys - look like they plan to milk that tired old cow for all its worth for another year. They have a new guy to pull on the udder teets, but it is essentially the same cow at the same feed trough. Meanwhile the Cards reload and get better. Great.

With this there is no major money available to pursue a big trade unless they cobble something together with the Padres to get Headley for third.

Hard to imagine that Bronson will not be a Red again. 200 innings a season with a sub 4.00 ERA. Now they are going to depend on Cingrani - unproven with a bad back last season. Cueto and his trips to the DL. Bailey and his inconsistency as well as FA status at year end. Latos with his slider elbow throwing off bone chips. Leake with his 1000 LOB's by the 5th inning and Arroyo style fast ball. Broxton with his 300+ lbs. of slop.

Not looking real spiffy at present.

Just don't know how to feel honestly. 10 steps back one step forward.

article in reds paper says no more moves. they can stick it, sure as hell don't need my money to watch pitt and st.louis run over us. back to average days.

I really don't want to overreact, but I am really concerned this team is headed back to mediocrity. The rotation and the potential losses in the near future within it scares the hell out of me. And the rotation is only one concern. Once injuries set in that we can almost guarantee are going to happen, it's going to be a long road. I hope I eat my words, but I am concerned. Not sure what we can do, but I feel sitting on our hands time and time again won't solve anything. I have had a few so I'll settle down. Excuse the rant.

i have the same feeling, we will be the brewers again soon.

I am with y'all on this. The only thing left is to move Bailey, which hasn't happened. There is no reason to believe the rotation will not experience the DL a lot given the most recent past. Which puts the pressure on the pen, which has its own issues and DL visits. I still think the window closed after the 2012 season. Some guys are going to have to really step their games up for them to even stay the same, much less improve on their record.

Latest report is Bronson to the O's. They are amenable to a 3 year deal, which is what Bronson wants. So if that isn't an issue it sounds like Bronson will flex on the money. Good luck to him if true.

I agree best of luck to Bronson. He was a great guy in the clubhouse and was ready every start. You could expect him to get blown out at least once a season, but on the whole he was a great Red, imo.

back to the same ole reds. bobby should sell the reds to mark cuban. maybe we could get over the hump instead of going back down the drain.

Homer and Walt are still dancing on the potential of extending his contract. Anybody's guess if he will or he won't. Arroyo is still dancing with the Orioles, Dodgers and appears to be in consideration with the Rangers.

Bronson's final three are D-backs, Dodgers and Orioles. I had hoped Bob/Walt would come to their senses, but they must feel they can bring up somebody to fill in adequately for the inevitable Cueto, Cingrani, etc. DL appearances. The only move they made worth a crap was signing Schumaker. They plan to sprinkle pixie dust on the others with an extra dose on Janet Votto to get more production. lulz.

no hope really for us this year. i won't be heading down for any games.

I will probably go to one because it appears my mother will not live much longer and she lives outside of Middletown. Will give us a chance to see them once. But I am not expecting much unless they get lucky and stay healthy. I call it the "ifs and hopes" season. With Bronson gone to the D-backs. All they have to bring up with any starter injury is some washed ups and Stephenson - which would be too early. What I want to see is if Walt made Tubs lose some weight and get in shape, if Votto will do his job for a change, if Luddy can be productive again, if Billy can handle it at the plate, etc. Ifs and hopes.

A lot of crying over an average at best, highly paid pitcher... Also funny you didn't mention the declining BP.. Those RBIZ tho
