That wasn't even worth responding to, Z.

There are two coaches that make 5M. You're a dumbass if you think Texas is going to offer him 20. You're even dumber if you think Alabama won't match. It will come down to what Saban wants to do and that's it.

Sure Austin is a great place to live. You're talking about a man who eats the same ****ing thing for lunch every single day because he doesn't want to waste the time or the energy deciding what he wants to eat. You think he goes sightseeing?

Bama is doing ok recruiting. The more apt comparison since we were talking about the best job in Texas-- how is Texas A&M recruiting base any different than Texas GREAT recruiting base?

They obviously recruit from the same pool. Texas has had a rough few years, but it's not like they're down on Tennessee's level where recruits are too young to remember them fielding a good team. At this point, I doubt most kids grow up dreaming of playing for the Longhorns little brother. That may change over time, but right now I'm with Verc, last year was just the perfect storm and aTm will likely return to a 8-4 type of level once Johnny Football leaves campus.

Exponentially more kids grow up as rabid Texas fans than A&M fans. Historically, Texas has gotten who they want, and then A&M, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, etc etc have gotten to fight over the scraps.

The point is not that he could recruit any better at Texas, obviously, just that it would be easier. Saban's got to travel a lot right now. Traveling sucks when you're old. He would barely have to go anywhere at Texas, other than to pick off one or two players a year.

Texas could probably come up with several contract "perks" courtesy of their booster pool to make Saban's next several generations of offspring absurdly rich. That's what could set them apart from Alabama. The salary would pale in comparison to the benefits.

You think they're goin to pay a football coach 30+ million when the next highest would be makin less than 5?

Ok

I didn't say they would; I said they could. I have no idea how crazy they are. I have no idea what Bama's breaking point is. Everyone in sports already knows that Saban is radically underpaid; everyone's read the articles that estimate Saban has been worth $30 million a year to the state of Alabama since he was hired. I don't think it's out of the question that the school with the deepest pockets in the country decides that it's time to escalate the arms race and make money as big a factor as possible.

It was sometime within the last few years, I remember Texas signing the same number of recruits as official visits handed out. They picked who they wanted, brought them in for an official visit, and signed them. No picking through leftovers or waiting on a player to decide. That's gotta be a big draw for a HC.

Pretty sure being lazy and complacent ended fulmer and Mack brown.

Again, the man eats the same thing for lunch every day. Every. Day. Sorry, "traveling sucks when you're old" isn't cutting it. The man is obviously a different breed

Y'all are acting like Malzahn is the second coming of Vinnie Lombardi. He is a great coach but let's not act like he hasn't benefited from 2 absolute miracles.

That's true.

But I'm also not going to act like the landscape of football, especially offensively, isn't evolving by the day. I'll take a younger coach at the forefront of that.

Laziness and complacency have nothing to do with it. Saban being a different breed has nothing to do with it. He's over 60, and if he wants to prolong his career as long as possible, then he'd be well served to start reducing the physical demands of the job, and travel is physically grueling. At Texas you can recruit as well and as enthusiastically as anywhere, but with far less travel. I think you're wrong to dismiss that as irrelevant, both in the specific case of Saban and as it relates to the attractiveness of that job in general.

Travel factor is overrated (IMO) when you parade around in private jets with all the works, and have a private staff catering to your every need. Not like he is hopping in the ole University station wagon and humping it around the country.

I'm not sure the Jimmy should apply to opinion based content...

Agreed. Always thought it was posting redundant information, not opinion. I'm sure there have been many occasions where many of us have posted the same opinion in multiple posts. It's never been Verc and Brown, but I'm sure it's happened.

Otherwise you'd be eligible for the Jimmy every time you came in here and posted "Frediot"...and God knows that's going to continue to happen.
