If the U.S. National team played a hand-picked team of the greatest non-Soccer playing athletes in America, there is no limit on how bad the National team would win. With no understanding of angles or defending, and no offensive skill at all, there would be no chance of them even scoring.

Our U17 team could beat a hand picked team of the best athletes from other sports.

:eek:lol: quoted for any time you feel the need to make a player evaluation in the future
Lol. Was almost joking, but not really. You give a great foreign coach that speaks English a week with the best athletes in the US, I really think it could happen.

Your quote is noted :)

The only thing I dislike about national soccer is the "what if <enter star of nba, nfl, mlb here> played?" Discussions the media will shove down our throats.

Who has been the assistant that you have heard the least out of on the recruiting trail?

I'm gonna go with Elder or Jake and if you put a gun to my head, I'm gonna go with Jake.

Sorry David Beckham, I'm not here to be politically correct or pretend I know a lot about soccer. If I come to the football talk thread and see soccer posts, I will throw my opinion out there. Idc if I'm right, wrong, or retarded. It is what it is.

Elder has been out a lot.

Both coordinators don't do much but that's the way its supposed to be

I don't hate soccer because the rest of the world loves it. I don't hate it at all actually, the flopping is ridiculous at times. I just don't enjoy watching it on television, it's boring.

it really is a terrible TV sport - i played it in college and still can't sit through a game

i started playing just to get in shape for bball season though so not sure i had as much "love of the game" as the typical player

Personally I think baseball is more boring than soccer. I hate watching baseball. In person is ok because of the food.

I like watching USA in the World Cup. But watching any other team is not very entertaining to me. I have no emotional investment.

I'm probably ignorant. Btw I don't think there aren't great athletes. I think there aren't "freak athletes". There aren't CP's that can cut faster than anyone I've ever seen, there isn't a 6'8" 275 lb guy that is as fast as a 6" 200 lb guy, there isn't someone like Julio Jones who can probably jump higher than two soccer players combined, etc. if they had those kind of guys, it would be more popular IMO.

Disagree - tons of freak athletes with unreal cutting ability playing soccer. Those guys are the best athletes in their country. If they grew up in the US, there would be several guys on each team who could play DB or WR in the NFL if they grew up with football instead of futbol.

I think Americans don't realize how quick and fast those guys are because they're slowed down by the ball at their feet. Also, many Americans completely underrate how difficult it is to do any high level skill with your feet. Hand sports are much easier to learn and develop. After the 2014 World Cup, we could hand pick our best athletes, give them an All-Star coaching staff with 4 years to get ready for 2018, and the team would get embarrassed.

Soccer isn't a great TV sport. I like the World Cup every four years because it's something other than baseball during the summer. But it's just silly to underrate the athletes or skillset elite soccer players bring to the table.
