Are social networking sites good or bad for recruiting?

I'm basing it off of Lambert's comments about the fanbase frustrating him on Twitter, because we apparently keep suggesting that he's not solid to UT and going to flip to Auburn.

Do these websites help or hurt us, in the end?

Both. Recruits love the attention, but in some situations (such as this one) it can obviously be an negative issue

Don't forget that these websites also allow trolls to log on, "fake" being a fan, and bash a recruit. It can definitely be used for tactical negativity..

Help. Recruits are constantly saying UT fans are awesome for showing them love.

Adoree Jackson tweets that he is on the phone with Muschamp and gets 30 retweets....He congratulates Malone for committing and gets over 300 retweets.

Our fans are crazy on twitter, but they are awesome. They were non stop on that reporter from the Malone interview...lol

It cant hurt.....IMO

The kids live on twitter and other social sites. I am sure they read more or pay attention to more comments than we may first suspect.

I am sure many read comments made on this site.

Hopefully these young men realize that the naysayers are either trolls or just a very small portion of our fanbase. At least our fans don't poison trees and/or kill people over football.

I would say if it impacts at all it is to the good.

Kids love the attention and fans love serenading recruits. Sometimes it gets over the top but most people keep it respectable I feel. It's basically just become an interactive recruiting tool for certain programs like ours. Prospects use it to garner interest (followers), network with coaches and other prospects, to recruit other prospects, and they even use to even gauge interest-levels of different fan bases. Overall I'd say it's a good thing, especially for a program like ours.

The number of times people have to apologize for something they tweeted is staggering. More harm than good imo.

All of the psychos pissed Lambert off tonight. It is horrible when the lunatic fringe can reach out and touch someone in the wrong way.

There are always the options of growing a pair or not putting yourself in the position to begin with.

I'm not commenting on anything or anyone specifically. Just the nature of social networking.

edit: Not trying to sound harsh. In a perfect world everyone is respectful and polite. The interwebs are not a perfect world.

Good. Most vols on twitter are positive, and the negative or mean spirited vols seem to get tweeted to if they're not supporting recruits or UT. Really good community online, self policing and positive for recruits. It's a good thing.

I understand some of our vocal fanbase can be frustrating, but we need mentally strong individuals. Hopefully he gets enough insight from the other recruits and doesn't get too wrapped up with the drivel of a bunch of mouth breathers.
