'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I need to visit you guys over here in the recruiting forum more often. More info and less whining and name calling! Kudos to you guys:hi:

Amen. I went to the FF just one time and if was enough to keep me away. Everyone on their acts like they know the fix to every problem and they're all delusional. They are terrible fans

Does he project as a strong safety or free safety here. Im really excited to see him in orange

He'll most likely be moved around a bit early on before he settles into a spot in the secondary IMO.

He has great instincts at the safety position but the measurable a to play CB as well. Where he ends up might depend on how some ther guys progress.

I get what you are saying but outside of the west coast you better be in the top 10 in recruiting every year if you want a shot at being consistently being in the top 10

The 4 that have a shot winning a NC title this year weren't below 11th in the past 3 years in recruiting. Recruiting rankings lead to winning big and the results prove it.

The numbers don't lie. If you take a four year trailing average of recruiting rankings, turn those numbers into an ordered list, you find that about 70% of the time in head to head matchups, the team with the higher average wins. That number jumps to about 90% in BCS title games.

Don't confuse rankings/polls with quality of a team. If polls were correct, the higher ranked team should beat a lower ranked team with consistency. That means hypothetically the 8th best team could have 7 losses (If they played the top 7 teams), but there is no way the current polls would allow for that. The end result is a polling system mixed with good teams and those teams with the best records.

With a 70% prediction rate in individual games it should also be noted that about 70% of teams finish within one game of seasonal predictions. In the SEC, for instance, the largest over performer is Mizzou (+5 games over talent average predictions), followed by Vandy (+3) and then MSU (+2). The largest under performer is UF (-5) followed by UT (-2). The rest of the teams (65%) were within 1 game of predictions. 4 team's SEC record were predicted precisely by talent averages. This was a down year in the SEC as historically the prediction rates are about 80%.

By the way, Auburn ' s record was exactly what talent predicted.

Here is a chart that illustrates this year's predictions based on talent averages.

On my phone so sorry for difficulty with chart.

Did you account for attrition? Cruz that has killed ut over the years.

There are ways to tweak the numbers to make them better. Without accounting for attrition you can arrive at a rate of about 70%. What that says is that generally attrition is similar across the board or correlation would drop. Can UT be an anomaly? Sure. But I am just talking about the general predictive ability of recruiting. Talent is king. It is probably the single biggest factor for success.

If you are concerned about UT, don't be. Here is why; 1) Jones cut Dooley's negative impact on talent in half, 2) Jones has a historical trend of averaging over-performing by 3 games a year AND increasing talent averages every year as a head coach. The idea that the SEC is magical is a myth, we look better because we recruit better than every other conference. Give Jones SEC talent and he will win SEC games at an alarming clip. Even with an under performance this year he got more from the team than Dooley, with less talent and a harder schedule, and he has a history of a first year that is underwhelming.

Rashaan is my favorite recruit I saw Rashaan and Vic play live and I tell you this kid can play. He's bigger and faster than Vic and hits like a freight train. IMO the most underrated recruit we have.

He's a ball player for sure. Looks like a Deon Grant type of safety. Great hands, could excel as a wide receiver. He's a solid tackler, i don't know about freight train, but he brings guys down.

Very close with Deon, but in my opinion, he's more the Dale Carter type. Deon had a tendency to be a little shy of contact at times, and RG doesn't have that in him. I can't wait to see him playing next year.

One of my favorites as well, although I have quite a few favorites in this class haha.

I have never heard on here he was faster than Vic. That is blazing! Awesome too!

Gaulden is a 5 star talent. I don't think I've seen a more grossly underrated football player

Even my bama fan friend that coaches in area that has seen vic and gaulden play all year agrees in this assessment. Said Gaulden is 5 star ball hawk and he is really interested to see what Vic does in college at slot. Thinks Vic is going to be a problem at slot for team with that speed. Said film doesn't do it justice compared to when you see vic live

Cant wait to see Vic and Rashaan during Track season, then we can see who is faster.
