'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I agree that at this point he may be, but I think adoree has a higher ceiling, jmo. Regardless it would be a huge boost in speed and athleticism to our secondary which we need.

How's his ceiling higher? He's around the size of VHIII. Gaulden is 6-6'1 with long arms, elite closing speed, and he's going to be an absolute monster at setting the edge in the running game.

SN: Don't get me wrong I really like Jackson a lot. :)

No.....Gaulden at Safety, Payne at corner, McDowell at nickel

Huh?? Why would you take McDowell out of his natural position and put him in the nickel position where he will have to cover smaller, quicker slot WRs? That position seems to be tailor made for Payne with Gaulden at corner to cover bigger wideouts.

McDowell is a safety. Gaulden is whatever he wants to be as far as I am concerned. But he has to be on the field somewhere. I think he would make a heckuva nickel as freshman because he could play near the box and help set the edge in run support. The nickel is the base D nowdays against all the spreads. I know this - our secondary is going to be very unfriendly to opposing teams for the next several years.

This is not HS. Weight and size matters at safety. He'll be best served at CB. McDowell is built for the safety position. 180-190lb Gaulden versus Yeldon&Gurley. Yeah that's not a good matchup if he's just coming down from safety. I like him coming off the edge much better. He'll fit in very well at CB. What you're calling for is a bit backwards looking at the skill sets.

The only problem with Gaulden at corner is his coverage skills are suspect and Payne has elite coverage skills. Gaulden getting to 200lbs will not be problem, then he will be the best Safety in the country

There have been tons of safeties Gaulden's size that have succeeded in the SEC. Eric Berry wasn't the biggest guy, but he was fearless.

Honestly, I think it's a bit backwards putting Gaulden in a box and assuming he'll be a CB. He's versatile enough to move around a play a lot of positions for us. Who knows where he settles in.

One thing for sure about Gaulden is....he's fearless. McDowell and Kelly also have a mean streak. But I believe Gaulden is the Fastest between the two of them. Also can't really gauge much from Kelly's film, he played in the lowest classification in the state.

Don't know that I would call it the lowest classification in the state.

You have two because it is. 12 team league and some schools in that league can't even feild a team. They played three out of league legitimate games and two of those were loses. The rest were teams that are barely even a school.

Division 2 1A is pretty weak, but there are a few good teams at the top and Webb played some games against teams not in D2 1A.

I'd worry more about Kelly's level of competition if he have done so well on the camp circuit.
