'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

The only problem with Gaulden at corner is his coverage skills are suspect and Payne has elite coverage skills. Gaulden getting to 200lbs will not be problem, then he will be the best Safety in the country

Give me the athlete I can develop coverage skills. Hardly any good CBs are great in coverage coming from HS. Sutton and VHIII are crazy good for young guys. Most others play safety on their HS teams. Payne has very good skills but McDowell is a pure safety. Putting him at nickel would be crazy. I would develop Gaulden at CB and line up Payne with Gaulden at CB along with McDowell plus Kelly Jr. at Safety. That would allow for the secondary to be a lot stronger as well as getting your best athletes on the field at once.

That's high high praise. Makes me excited for the future of our secondary.

Yes he is better than Adoree. Gaulden has an unbelievable motor. Adoree can cover, but here's the question. Is he better than D'Andre Payne or Cam Sutton. I perfectly fine with who we got. If he comes fine. If not fine.

What happened to Cam Sutton?
Or are you just talking about this class?

Merry Christmas TBB!

You have two because it is. 12 team league and some schools in that league can't even feild a team. They played three out of league legitimate games and two of those were loses. The rest were teams that are barely even a school.

So by your logic does Ensworth play in the second lowest classification?

Actually they played 4 out of league games. 2 wins were against Catholic and CAK. Remind me what division and how those teams fared this year?

How do you think Friendship, BGA, Webb, Donelson Christian, and Evangelical Christian would fare in A or AA?

Sorry forgot about CAK. Not quite sure why you would throw DIIAA into the discussion. That happens to be one of our tuffest divisions. Im talking about your zion christians and Mt. Juliet christians, you know the schools that were created so that certain kids can play that normally wouldn't see the field at the public school they were zoned for. So rich mommy and daddy just made a school so little Johnny could be the star. Now look what you made me do, I'm tryin not to be condescending. Focus now....If Webb played in DIIAA they ''might'' beat St. Benedict, which is why St. Benedict is thinking about dropping down to yep you guess it ''the lowest division''. Years ago Pope John Paul II contemplated dropping down to the lowest division but the coach at the time Jeff Brothers refused. he was quoted saying ''why would I want to drop down just so I can win in a cupcake league''. Webb made back to back appearances at state in 05 and winning the championship in 06. If you remember 07 TSSAA combined all private schools that offer aid, which is what they should do. Webb played MBA in the first round and got destroyed. That 07 Webb team was 30 points better than the current Webb team.

Lay off the eggnog. You said Webb was in the lowest classifaction of TN high schools, but it seems you are now talking about only DII. Im referring to all (DI and DII). Webb and some of the teams they play in DII-A could easily compete in DI-AAA OR 4A. Thats the reason I bring up the wins against CAK and Knox Catholic.

Sorry about cluttering the Gaulden thread. Glad both him and TKjr are going to be Vols. Can't wait till both are playing on Saturdays.

ECS would be average just like Webb. The rest of those schools got destroyed in their scrimmages. And we all know the real reason BGA dropped down. However you do have to commend JPII for refusing to take the easy road. Or how about FRA against Overton. What a joke! At least Father Ryan drives right past FRA to play Overton every year. I know it makes know sense.

Sorry guys I can't let this go by without comment.....Webb and ECS would be average against A and AA? Bahahaha!

You do understand classifications in TN high school football right?

You seem to know a lot about Webb. I saw that 2007 team a couple of times as well as the 2009 (2010 state champ team) and I think that 2009 team was probably the better of the two by far. What do you think?

I agree TKJr has played against weak competition. He'll have an adjustment to make once he starts practicing at UT. He'll need to learn how to compete 100%.

I think that 2009 team was very good. The Blance brothers were special. I believe it may have been a toss up between 07 and 09. 07 had some talented lineman that may have given that team an edge.

I dont think Webb or ECS could remain at the top of any class but their own. Yes they could have success against marginal teams across the board but so could South Pittsburg, so could Trousdale. The deal is not that the top 2 teams in DIIA can't compete it's that they only play each other for competition. The rest of the league it's middle school at best. All im saying. I think TKjr is a great player has great film, has tenacity. Just didn't see it against Maryville, or Ensworth. Maybe he needs better players around him, I don't know. But we will find out soon.

Three-star Thompson's Station (Tenn.) Independence safety*RaShaan Gaulden*is committed to Tennessee. The 6-1, 170-pound Gaulden is very aggressive and physical. He also does a nice job in pursuit and puts himself in position to make plays.

I really don't understand the 3* rating by 247, Scout or ESPN. He is easily a 4*. He's a better safety than Smith who was rated a 4*.

I think it's mostly because he was ineligible for his Junior year, so they weren't able to evaluate him as fully and he missed out on some invites to camps and whatnot.

If he played varsity all four years of high school at the same school, he would probably be ranked a lot higher.

Gaulden is a better CB prospect than Adoree.
Adoree is one of the top 3 DB prospects in this entire 2014 class. There aren't many DB prospects with that much talent. His ability to change direction mid-air is pretty special and probably close to the best I've ever seen coming out of high school. Gaulden is a baller but I wouldn't call him a better (CB) prospect than Adoree. Gaulden might even be best suited at S, in any case.

Adoree is a top 3 athlete for sure. But Gaulden is built for the CB position top to bottom. Look at his skill set it projects to the CB position best. At CB his size is much better than Adoree(Who is actually kind of a shorter CB). He hits harder than Adoree. He's stronger and in the SEC that's important in setting the edge in the running game. He closes well and has long arms. All we have to do is coach his coverage skills up to his athleticism. He's vastly underrated.
