Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

No flames from me. I agree.

what I also saw was the hard hitting attitude that florida state didn't have for most of the 2000's. Every tackle I felt the guy made a form shoulder and helmet in the chest and you almost could hear it even without the the sounds turned up. I think they will be a tough out and probably will be in the National Title game as well.

Sorry for the wordy post in advance. Really take a close look at the recruiting class Butch and staff are assembling. Get behind the numbers so to speak. The class will mesh personality and chemistry wise as well as athletically. All this recruiting class ranking stuff just flew out the window as far as I am concerned. I am a true sunshine pumper on recruiting.

My biggest concerns when Butch was hired was with the staff he states was the best. In order of concern was Jancek, Mahoney and Elder. Jancek has progressively improved his scheme, play calls, and player development. I no longer have that concern. After Pittman's success I doubted Mahoney would be nearly as good. But the stats indicate that the running game is getting better as the season progresses and the line is giving Worley enough time to throw. So Mahoney is off my worry meter. Elder has only one experienced TE to work with - so there is nothing to grind on him about, especially since he received two commitments from top TE's including the #1 rated.

The only mild concern I have is with Coach Jake. The silly stuff - the continued screens with a line that is too slow to block in space, the bubbles that everybody knows about, the telegraphed swing passes, the delayed hand off running plays, the roll out to the left with throws on the run - it just does not work well. To shake it up use them once a game, but not a steady diet that gives you nothing but 3 & outs. He is just not using the most important short pass there is - the WR slant. Very few dig routes, check downs, etc. Those are throws that get an inexperienced QB in rhythm. Then you can go to the fades, sidelines, go routes, streaks, etc. with a QB and WR's that are in sync. I hope they figure this out because Bama already knows these tendencies and Saban has already set his D up to stop what has already been shown not to work countless times. Not wanting to be a buzzkill, I just want us to have our best shot at pulling the upset of the year off this weekend.

You been talking to Saban?

Great responses. I think I misstated my point.

The SEC as a conference is probably the best conference, top to bottom.

I think the individual teams are being overrated in the polls.

Mostly, Missouri jumping to #5 appalls me. Auburn's jump is crazy too, but it's harder to argue against A&M as a quality win as opposed to Georgia and Florida.

Rewatching the game.

Marlin Lane rocks people to sleep in the hole.

Hood, Walls. McCullers and a few others played like grown a$$ men yesterday. I love this feeling. Been too long.

Lane has a natural way of exploding into defenders when the lanes close up.

So was Manziel last year.

Both pass the eye test - you can tell they are both special players

My point with that is to counter the "he's a freshman" argument. He had the luxury of being in the program for a year. Leaves unfair expectations on true freshman.

Who do we take with 3-5 spots left?

Elliot Walks on, Evan on Scholarship (DB), Reed/Juco DT, Malone, Hendrix, & Garrett/Big name currently committed somewhere else.

lol, I was half-way kidding about the elliott walk-on statement. Its pretty crazy that we are almost full at this point.

Congratulations Volnation. Vols looked great yesterday and definitely a team on the rise playing with confidence and determination. Your recruiting has been superb.

Which VN Guru came up with the Berry-walk-on idea? Its an insult to both those gifted future vols.

Wow, we've gotta have a top 5 SOS. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the hardest. Geez...

I think Mizzou is a bit too high. They're good but I see them losing at least one before the SECCG. They've still got usce, UT, @Ole Miss, and A&M(not sure where that one is). Don't think our veteran guys don't want payback vs them too. I think they caught uga at a good time after they lost so many players vs us and they were hyped like we were yesterday at home for uf which has crap for offense.

I think Miami is overrated and will get destroyed Nov 3 @fsu.

Ohio St should go undefeated and should get left out in the cold. Any of the top 3 would blast them and give Urban another heart attack.

Baylor at 6 is an interesting team. They've scored 69+ points in every game except Kst, which was their only road game so far and won 35-25. I heard a stat earlier that Baylor would still have a top 15 offense without counting any of their 2nd half stats. lol that's crazy. They may win the Big 12 but I doubt their D could make them a legit NC contender.

I think bama, oregon, and fsu are clearly the top 3 and two of those will play for the NC. I'd have fsu #1 right now. I think they're the most complete team and Winston has a chance to make people say Johnny who? Kid is super good.
I'd like to see a matchup of any of those three.

I really haven't paid much attention to the polls the last few years but how much fun will it be when we're hopefully back in this conversation in a couple years.

Just think how close we are to being 6-1 right now and in the conversation this year kinda like auburn. If Peterman doesn't have the worst half of football for any cfb qb in several years @uf and we score points on all of uf's mistakes in that 1st half we could've won that game. We all know how the uga game ended but just think how close we really are to being ranked #11 right now like auburn is at 6-1. Heck, at worse we're 5-2 with the uf loss and probably still in the top 25.

I think the players on this team realize how close they are to being 6-1 too. We may not go into Tuscaloosa and win but I'd bet the farm we don't lose by 27+. That's a slap in the face! bama was favored by 27-28 vs uk and ark. I hope they think we suck as bad as both those teams bc if they do they're in for a surprise. I think we match up well with bama. Them losing Sunseri will help some plus our defense is good for knocking multiple opposing players out every game haha. Nobody can tell me our 09 team that lost 12-10 down there was better coached and playing with more confidence than team 117. JMO
