Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

Dooley became a multi-millionaire off the destruction of the Vol program. There can never be enough bad things said about him. I don't care how many times people say "get over it".

I'm convinced that Dooley took the job because it was a smart business move rather than an opportunity to advance his career by rebuilding a powerhouse program.

...or in other words, he saw the $$$$$ and an incompetent AD who would give him a ridiculous buyout and thought "I'm going to get rich"

Love Butch Jones. Wins like this are big for taking the next step in rebuilding a powerhouse program. That was big!!

Your point?

His point is even Bruin could look good running the ball against those D's. So, when he was THE GUY, the other teams D would allow more yards regardless of who was running the ball. It is why a few of our backups looked really good in those games as well.

Would you not agree Florida when we played them and SC had stronger D's?

To get hurt? Because I'm not deeming them the better than Bama? A team who couldn't stop the powerhouse of Boston College? Bama has been there and proven it in recent years. Fsu has not. So excuse me for not overreacting. And please spare us the message board "you mad bro" crap because there's nothing more annoying than some jackass placing a negative tone on a simple statement.

U mad bro?

:)

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but:

SEC is ridiculously overrated this season.

No, you're right. This is not the SEC's best year. Bama is still pretty strong (though not a great team), but the league is still probably the most competitive, along with the Pac 12

Seems to be balancing out in the most recent polls. Only two in top 10. Although I think Mizzou is the very definition of overrated (though they are better than I would have ever thought).

Conference is as deep as its ever been. Only Arky and Kentucky are completely awful. Miss State is not great. But the rest are all quality teams that could beat almost anyone in the country on a good day.

Even so, PAC 12 is only conference to compete from top to bottom and when you get to middle and bottom, it's not close. The great coaching hires over the last few years is bringing normalization among teams.

Sorry for the wordy post in advance. Really take a close look at the recruiting class Butch and staff are assembling. Get behind the numbers so to speak. The class will mesh personality and chemistry wise as well as athletically. All this recruiting class ranking stuff just flew out the window as far as I am concerned. I am a true sunshine pumper on recruiting.

My biggest concerns when Butch was hired was with the staff he states was the best. In order of concern was Jancek, Mahoney and Elder. Jancek has progressively improved his scheme, play calls, and player development. I no longer have that concern. After Pittman's success I doubted Mahoney would be nearly as good. But the stats indicate that the running game is getting better as the season progresses and the line is giving Worley enough time to throw. So Mahoney is off my worry meter. Elder has only one experienced TE to work with - so there is nothing to grind on him about, especially since he received two commitments from top TE's including the #1 rated.

The only mild concern I have is with Coach Jake. The silly stuff - the continued screens with a line that is too slow to block in space, the bubbles that everybody knows about, the telegraphed swing passes, the delayed hand off running plays, the roll out to the left with throws on the run - it just does not work well. To shake it up use them once a game, but not a steady diet that gives you nothing but 3 & outs. He is just not using the most important short pass there is - the WR slant. Very few dig routes, check downs, etc. Those are throws that get an inexperienced QB in rhythm. Then you can go to the fades, sidelines, go routes, streaks, etc. with a QB and WR's that are in sync. I hope they figure this out because Bama already knows these tendencies and Saban has already set his D up to stop what has already been shown not to work countless times. Not wanting to be a buzzkill, I just want us to have our best shot at pulling the upset of the year off this weekend.

Yeah. Basically the middle of the pack teams caught up with the lower half teams from the top tier. Several teams got ranked because they had a favorable early schedule.

Been rewatching yesterday's game. One thing I've noticed is that our inexperience at wide receiver costs Worley some throws. I'm only early in the second quarter, but there are at least three quality throws he made that a good, experienced receiver catches. The big one to Blanc and some short throws to North where North probably could have done more to get separation from his defender.

Worley could have had 250+ yards yesterday with a little better WR play. I think our WRs have talent (except Blanc), just need experience making those catches.

No worries though. We won and I'm sure they are studying the film and getting better.
