The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

Retroactively changing race and or championship results is stupid. You can't change history. We all know what happened, right or wrong. Newman had 25 other races to get himself in the Chase.

Fine the team, suspend management, and dock points; I don't care. But you can't go back and tamper with results.
I'm in this camp too.

Clint Bowyer is on Sportscenter now. He needs to run for political office. Asked the obvious blunt question and dancing around it.

Newman said in an interview that he and Bowyer have a hunting trip planned for either this week or next ( don't remember ). I'll bet that will be an interesting trip.

The bull**** keeps getting deeper...

Brian Pattie, crew chief for Michael Waltrip Racing driver Clint Bowyer, said the "itching" comments made over team radio prior to his driver's suspicious spin Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway weren't some kind of code -- they were in reference to a poison oak rash Bowyer had contracted.

Y! SPORTS

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he really does have poison oak. But I'm not sure what that even accomplishes at this point. Minds have been made up.

MWR could be losing both NAPA & 5-Hour Energy, they both released statements saying they are reviewing their relationships with MWR.

What a bunch of craziness that all was!!

Matt cruising to his second championship is sure to be overshadowed by this controversy.

It's ok. I'll still take it. :)

When these big teams ( and maybe smaller ones ) start losing sponsors over this, they'll have to rethink what they're doing. You can stick a fork in Mikey, he's done. Probably lose both major sponsors and I seriously doubt he's on tv as analyst in the future. Sponsors want their names in the news but not because of a cheating scandal. Now Pennzoil is going to be on the front page of the sports section.

My guess is that there is about a 90% chance Gordon goes into the chase, either replacing Logano or as a 13th driver.

The Bowyer spin was a lot more egregious than this thing with Logano. I'm 99.9% sure NASCAR doesn't make any more changes to the Chase field.

You're probably right, but NASCAR is in the spotlight right now and their credibility is on the line. They're beginning to look like WWE on a bad night. The Chase fiasco and the botched restart is going to cost them a lot of fans.

Lotta chicken littles in this thread all of the sudden.

If you're referring to me, I've been watching NASCAR since 1961 and I've seen them at their best and worst. Right now they need to get their stuff together. Enforce the rules and do away with the chase if they can't keep it legit. I remember when most of this stuff was settled in the pits between men and it was better racing back then.

I like how SpecialK labled it Na$car. Very fitting. I just think it's going to be interesting with all these major corporations having their drivers shed in a bad light.

Yeah. F1 had a similar situation in 2008 where the Ing, Renault team deliberately had their 2nd driver stuff it into a wall in order to draw a safety car. When it all came to light in 2009, renault's main sponsor bolted mid season, and the team boss was given a multi year suspension.
